Chapter Twenty Four : "A Night To Remember"

Allison's P.O.V

  "Happy Birthday!" Cody greeted as soon as I got up from bed. He stayed with me last night because a group of skitter showed up in the camp and we had to kill them all and move to the forest near the same city again. It's only about 10 miles away.

 "Thank you .. come here" I said and after he did , I gave him a huge hug. I still don't know if I should tell him the truth about the spikes , I don't want him to flip over and feel bad for himself.

 "Today's gonna be a long day" he then said while fixing his bed.

 "I know .. but I don't wanna get my hopes up. If Mom and Dad are here , they'll probably be cooking by now"

 "I know" he then said and smiled at me.

 "Let's eat together?" I asked.

 "Of course" Cody said and then we headed out. "Happy Birthday!!" Lourdes said as she catches up to us while we're on our way to get some food.

 "Thank you" I said and then she handed me a gift.

 "Oh God thank you" I said. Knowing our situation right now , I'd rather have no gifts at all but since they already have one , It'll just be rude to reject it.

 When I opened the small box , it's a rosary. "Thank you Lourdes" I said to her even though I have never been religious at all. And what happened just a year ago , magnified everything that I hate about religions.

 "It'll give you hope and peace when everything else is dark" she then said and smiled at me. When we got to the mini canteen , I was greeted too by the cooks.

 "Thank you very much" I said and then smiled at them.

 After an hour or so , we finally finished eating breakfast and washing up the dishes. I looked around but I can't see Ben , where is he?.

 I saw Maggie standing against a tree so I walked to her to ask if she knows where Ben is. "The last time I saw him , he's with Hal and their Dad. But he's not here now" she then said and went back inside her tent.

 I sighed .. Oh Ben , where are you?

 "What are you doing?" I turned around and saw Matt standing behind me.

 "Uh, nothing. I'm just practicing my dancing skills" I said and he just laughed. I've been planning to have a dance with Allison for quite some time now.

 "You have a lot of work to do"

 "Shut up Matt" I said and then continued my routine. "Dancing is bad idea , you should stick to picnic and boring her out" he then said while smirking.

 "Just go away" I told him and then he walked out of my tent. He's right , I'll probably step on her foot once the dance started. We're just gonna have our picnic tonight. It's very crucial that tonight would be perfect since I heard Dad and Capt. Weaver talking about a possible attack on the skitters group in the city.

 I just decided to change my move from dance .. to picnic under the moonlight. "Way to impress a girl .. Ben" I thought to myself.

 Allison's P.O.V

 Several hours have passed and it's past lunch time , I still haven't seen Ben. "Did you see him now?" I asked Hal as soon as I caught up with him once again.

 "He's just right behind you" he said and then when I turned around , he's leaning in towards my face , I think our lips are only half an inch away from each other. I am shocked , that's why I slapped him .. much to his surprise and Hal's.
