The Past - Part II

Dear Professor Dumbledore;
This is the future Tom Riddle writing this letter to you. By now, Elizabeth Swan has entered Hogwarts and is hopefully sorted into Slytherin to make her mission easier. The reason why she is there is to change my ways, for the good. I specifically wrote this letter to you instead of Dippet because I know I can trust you more to look out for her and because you would understand the truth more than him. I know ever since you've met me I was different, and not trustworthy. Well now is the time when that can change. Help her with her mission whether she knows it or not. If nothing is to succeed, I'm afraid you have to be prepared for lots of loss and death in the future.
- Lord Voldemort
Aka: Tom Marvolo Riddle

Dumbledore tucked the letter away with a sigh, facing towards his class that he was teaching. It just so happened to be the same class that Riddle and Elizabeth were in. He watched as Elizabeth transformed the feather before her into a coin, laughing in victory, turning to her side to Riddle who was watching her. She nudged his side with a smile, pointing with her wand towards the object. Riddle nodded at her, smiling a tad with pride in his eyes. Riddle had helped her with the spell (despite the fact that she knew how to do it already) and was quite proud of her. Dumbledore nodded in thought. The mission was going well; Elizabeth successfully managed to slip through his walls of defence and befriend him. At first, he noticed Elizabeth was a bit hesitant around him, but after when Riddle defended her from a girl, Elizabeth had opened up to him. Even if she was unaware, Dumbledore was aware of the fact that yes, the mission was succeeding.
He had noticed that instead of skipping dinner and lunch, Riddle would be there at the table under the concerned watchful eyes of Elizabeth. Dumbledore heard once in his class Elizabeth scolding him for not eating and was skipping lunches. After that conversation, he noticed Riddle walking in unwillingly, a smirking Elizabeth behind him.
The thing that befuddled Dumbledore a lot, was how loyal he was to her. He knew that if anyone were to boss Riddle around, they would get a death stare sent to them by Riddle, and an injury of some sort that would not tie around him.

So how did Elizabeth got Riddle to obey?

Well, it all started in their first Transfiguration lesson. . .

Riddle watched as Elizabeth concentrated on trying to turn her coin back into a feather. He was so confused at the moment. What was so special about her? Why did he befriend her? Why does he listen to her?
Riddle only meant to give her the tour and then leave her be (and perhaps ask her to be one of his followers) but instead he found himself asking her what her class schedule was and if she wanted him to show her to the classes. He never does that! So why now?
Hogwarts rarely ever gets transfer students, so why now? Why did she move to Hogwarts? Riddle was meant to get information on her, and try to get her to join his side, but instead he found himself putting the thoughts of world domination at the back of his mind, and instead just enjoying the time spent with Elizabeth.
What befuddled him the most was the emotions he was feeling. He was conceived under a love potion. He shouldn't be able to love someone or feel any happy emotions. So what was that feeling in his stomach when he sees her? Why whenever she smiles it makes him want to smile? Why when at the sight of distress on her face, he wants to console her? Why was he feeling these things?
"Tom!" Riddle snapped out of his thoughts. He turned to Elizabeth who was beaming with joy. "Look!" she squealed. "I did it!" He looked to her desk and saw that she indeed did it, successfully turning her coin back into a feather.
   "Indeed you did." he mused.
"Now what do we do?" she thought out loud. "We did the activity, so what now?"
"We can just. . .'chill'?" Riddle said slowly, unsure if he said the saying right. Elizabeth smiled at him, making him know he said it right. He relaxed in relief at not making a fool of himself. "I don't understand that saying. Where you come from is weird."
"Yeah, it's a bit different from here." she chuckled, thinking back to her time zone. "Why don't we get to know about each other?" she suggested. She wanted to know what Riddle's history was, wondering what made him turn into the evil wizard he was in the future. "What's your history?"
Riddle tensed at the question. That question was really personal. Should he tell her? He looked to Elizabeth and saw her staring at him patiently, though a hint of concern leaked onto her face. Well, she doesn't really have any other friends except for him, so why not?
"I'm an orphan.  . ." he started slowly and quietly. "My mother died when she gave birth to me. . ."

And that was when Riddle realised that he was falling in love with Elizabeth. Instead of getting a look of disgust sent his way, he only got a look of pity and concern, and she did something the shocked him and a few onlookers the most.

She gave him a hug

No one had ever gave him any kind of affection in his life - it scared him that she showed him concern. No one had ever gave him concern.
But despite all the fear and shock, he knew that he could trust her with his life, that she was his best friend, and that he fell in love with her.
That was when he started obeying her, listening to her concerns on him. It made him feel loved, something he had never felt. And a way to repay her of sort, he treated her like a princess. When opening the door, he'd let her through first, when cold he'd give her his jacket, when someone would bully her, he'd defend her. If by any chance, it was making her fall in love with Tom Riddle.
It wasn't until the Christmas holidays did they confess their love for each other, and when the mission was considered a success and completed.
