A/N: This is the alternate version of my earlier one-shot, 'Two years, He Missed'.

The Child
Loki paced in his cell, waiting for the brainwashed Barton to get him out of the glass cell, and to also cause havoc in the SHIELD fortress. And so far, he was causing tension successfully between the Avengers.
He was pulled out of his thoughts when he heard a light tap on his glass cell, followed by a small giggle. He turned around slowly, bright blue eyes in a glare, and was shocked when he saw a small girl standing before him with no fear whatsoever. She looked to be just two; her bright emerald green eyes staring at him with curiosity. She had pitch black hair that curled down to her waist, dressed in a white sundress attire. She was also barefoot. He couldn't help but think she looked familiar. . .
"Hello. . ." he said slowly, wondering if what he was seeing was real.
"Hi!" she smiled brightly at him. He was confused. Why was she in a place like this? Innocence still in tact? "Wot you doin'?"
"I'm. . ." How was he supposed to say that he was going to rule her realm without scarring her? Why was he even wondering about it for a matter? "I'm planning to take over this realm." he decided to say bluntly.
"Okay!" What?
"Who are you?" he asked her curiously.
"Annabew Wee." she said innocently. Loki hummed in thought.
"You mean, Annabel Lee?" Loki clarified. She nodded in response. He hummed again. It reminded him of an old, happy memory concerning him and a special someone. "And what are you doing here in a place like this?"
"Uncle has stuff here."
"He brought you here?"
"No," she giggled cheekily, "I came in secwet." In secret?
"Did you now?" he raised an eyebrow impressed.
"Yep!" she nodded. "He got mad."
"I would think so." he mused. "Where's your parents?"
"Dunno." Annabel shrugged, playing with the ends of her dress. "Granma say Mummy is in good pwace."
Loki felt sorry for her. Her mother had died? "And what of your father?"
"Say he's somewhere as well."
"Interesting. . ."
"Why you want this realm?" she asked curiously. His face darkened at the question.
"Because I deserve to be King." he muttered, going back to pacing. "My whole life I was tricked to believe that I had an equal chance to rule Asgard instead of Thor, when all along, I never was considered to be King!" His voice went louder the longer he ranted. "Do you know why Odin never wanted me to be King? It's because I am a monster; the monster Asgardian parents would tell their younglings. I am the monster they fear, they hate. . ." Realising he was speaking to a mere child, he turned to her. Expecting her to look sad and scared, she looked confused and still curious.
"Uncle Thor?" she finally said after moments of silence. Loki felt his breath knocked out of him. "Granpa?"
"What did you just say?" Loki whispered. Annabel ignored him, thinking out loud.
"You Frost Giant? Like me?" Loki felt like he was going to faint at the new information on the little girl.

Uncle Thor. . .
Grandma. . .
Grandpa. . .

"Who are your parents?" Loki demanded. "What are their names!" He knew he was being a bit harsh on the girl, but he needed to know the answers.
"Mia!" Annabel answered after some thought. "Yeah! Mia!"
"Mia is the name of your mother?" Loki clarified. She nodded. "A-as in Mia Morrelidottir?" Another nod. "And she's. . .dead?"
No, that couldn't be. . .Mia was fine the last time he saw her - before he fell off the bridge. . .

"Loki!" she screamed, trying to make her way to him. He was struggling to hold on to Thor, his hand grasping at Odin's staff. They were dangling off the bridge. "Loki, hold on!"
"I could have done it!" Loki yelled up to Odin. "For you!"
"No Loki." was all he said. Two words that shattered his world. All the things he did to impress Odin, to make him notice him, all out to waste.
His expression slackened, as did his hand that held his life. He looked to her one last time. She stared at him with tears in her eyes, knowing what was to happen. "Don't. . ." she mouthed.
I love you, he thought, letting go of his life.
"LOKI!" he heard her scream out in agony. That was the last thing he heard before falling deeper into the darkness.
