A/N: Just watched Kong: Skull Island on the weekend. Man is Tom hot in the movie...
Anyway, this will be crap since I only watched it once and I already forgot almost all of the characters names. That and some of the scenes may be wrong. Soz.
Btw, I loved your responses to the recent Loki one-shot with the quote😝 cracked me up.
The Girl Who Waited
He knew what the two gentlemen were talking about when they approached him that night. He knew what island they were talking about. Why? Because it wasn't the first time someone told him.
"It's amazing!" she exclaimed happily. "Do you know what I could find on that island? It's so dangerous and cool -"
"Which is why you are not going." he told her sternly, snatching the map out of her hands and eyeing it with narrowed eyes. "Why the sudden interest?"
"I love sailing and exploring just like how you're a tracker and whatnot." she shrugged, leaning her head on his shoulder. "I came across this and I want to explore it."
"But it's dangerous." James pointed out. "It's called Skull Island for a reason."
"Because it's shaped like a skull." she said in an obvious tone. "Come on! Look, there's many articles that people and ships and planes have gone missing in that area. I want to find them."
"By yourself?" he said incredulous.
"Then come with me!"
"I can't." he shook his head. "You know how busy I am with -"
"Take a leave and join me!" she pouted. "Come on, we don't get any best friend moments."
"I'm sorry." he shook his head, handing the map back to her. "But you're going to have to go on your own.
Oh what a mistake that was.
"A bonus pay if we get back." he negotiated.
"If?" one of the men repeated worriedly. James sat unmoved. He needed the money. Not only because he was pricey, but if his friend was still at the island -his crush- she needed the help in living a normal life. He needed to find her. Save her. How long has she been missing you ask?
Five years is the answer.

He followed the man Hank Marlows with the tribal people, making sure his group of men (and two women) were near him. When they entered the village he was quite shocked at the living arrangements.
"Uh, is that supposed to keep the big thing away?" one of the female companions asked nervously, eyeing the wall.
"No, something bigger." Hank shook his head. "Come on!" he beamed. "You need to meet my friend."
"I thought he died -?"
"Oh no this friend arrived five years ago." he explained, following the leaders of the tribe. "She came from a sailboat. An explorer, she said."
James perked up immediately. "Explorer?" he asked keenly. "A female? Five years ago?"
"Uh. . ." Hank stared at him weirdly. "That is what I just said. . ."
"Black hair pale skin, green eyes?" he asked hopefully. Hank stared at him surprised.
"How did you know -"
"She's alive?" he said to himself. "She's alive. . ."
"Hank!" a voice called out. "What took you so long, old man? Like seriously -" the voice moved to the front of the crowd, revealing themselves. "-all I asked you to do is to ask if the guards wanted a drink -"
"Bailey?" James called out in disbelief. She snapped her head in his direction, feeling herself take a sharp breath in. "Oh my God, Bailey!"
"James, is that really you?" she whispered, tears gathering in her eyes.
"It's me, darling." James dropped his gun, walking towards her and pulling her into a much needed hug. "Oh I thought you were dead!"
"I missed you so much, James." she sniffed. "I thought I'd never see you again!"
"Yay! Happy reunions!" Hank interrupted happily. "So this is the special James you were speaking of. Good choice, good choice -"
"What are you doing here?" Bailey interrupted her friend, looking to James and his group. "Why -"
"It's a long story." James sighed. "But one of the main reasons why I came here is to look for you -"
"Wait," an African-American man with glasses intercepted, "that's why you agreed? To find her?"
"You knew about this place?" Vietnamese woman in the group asked. "How?"
"This one here." James wrapped his arm around his friend -and crush- affectionately. "She found the map and wanted to explore."
"So technically, you're not the first to discover this world." one of the military men smirked.
"Come on!" Hank exclaimed. "We need to show ya something. Something about the big thing you saw earlier."
"The thing that is protecting this very village." Bailey revealed.
***
"These guys worship him as a God." Hank explained to them. "And he's the last of his kind."
"And he saved my life." Bailey said softly. James turned to her surprised.
"That's right." Hank nodded. "Kong brought her here after her boat crashed, knocking her unconscious. Kong carried her here for us to look after."
"So you've been close to Kong and didn't get killed?" James said in disbelief. Bailey merely shrugged with a small smile.
"Kong isn't the bad guy here. The lizards are."
***
"I'll go up to the mountain and fire the gun instead." Bailey told James. "I know my way around the island." James looked conflicted.
"Are you sure?" he asked unsure.
"I'm sure. We don't have time to discuss this - go!"
Successfully Bailey fired the flare up into the air, James sighing in relief. However that relief was gone when he saw the fight between Kong and the lizard went towards where Bailey was. "Bailey. . ." he murmured, walking towards the mountain. It went to a full run when he saw her body flying into the air from the fight between Kong and the lizard. "BAILEY!"
"James, wait!" the team protested.
"You're going to kill yourself if you go there!" Hank protested.
"Bailey is going to die!" he cried. "I lost her once I am not losing the love of my life again!"
***
He watched as Kong slowly lowered her to the ground, walking away from her. He ran towards her, sliding beside her and lifting her into his arms and on his lap.
"Bailey?" he whispered. She stayed unconscious. "Bailey, come on. Wake up!" Still no response. "Bailey, wake up please. I love you, okay? I love you. I have loved you for a long time and I was too much of a coward to say it to you. Please, don't leave me. Wake up!"
And as if the gods had listened to him, Bailey sat up quickly, coughing out water. James cried in relief, bringing her into his chest. "Oh Bailey. . ."
"I l-love you too." she rasped out. "About time you made a move."
"Only had to wait five years." he laughed lightly. They looked up into the distance and saw Kong watching them. Bailey smiled at him, raising a hand in goodbye and mouthing her thanks. Kong nodded ever so slightly, walking away.
"Let's go home." James murmured, helping her up. "But first -" He cupped her face in his hands and brought her into a long awaited kiss. A kiss that's should have happened five years ago. But who cares? Better late than never.
