The Consulting Detective - Part II
"Come on, man!" Morgan exclaimed. "Ask her out!"
"Ask who?" Reid looked at him with wide eyes. "W-what are you on about?"
"We're talking about a certain Consulting Detective." Morgan smirked at Reid's blushing face. "You know, Estela Wellington?"
"Ooh, what about her?" Prentiss asked, walking into the conference room, the rest of the team piling in after for the case briefing. "I can't believe she solved our case by just glancing at the board."
"Very fascinating." Rossi agreed. "I've never seen someone profile the case so quickly."
"Deducing!" Reid blurted out. Everyone turned to him confused. He blushed under their gazes. "U-um. . .sh-she calls it deducing."
"And how do you know that?" Prentiss smirked. Reid avoided their gazes.
"I read her website." he mumbled.
"The Ways of Deduction." Garcia read our from her tablet. She raised her eyebrows impressed. "Damn, she's actually good - probably better than all of us combined and that is saying something since you guys are like, the best of the best."
"Do you have any information on her?" Hotch asked her.
"Um. . ." Garcia started typing madly onto her laptop. "She's thirty like Boy Wonder here, she graduated high school at the age of eleven, went to uni at twelve and finished thirteen, she has been - oh. . ." Garcia went quiet, staring at the screen.
"What is it?" JJ asked her.
"She. . .Estela used to take cocaine and heroin." Garcia said quietly. "She was a drug addict."
"What!" Reid said loudly. "No. . .that can't be - she wouldn't do that -"
"It says so right here, Spencer." Garcia told him, showing him the police reports. "Estela has a brother in the government, and he got a few police people to get her. Estela was taken to a rehab."
"Why. . .why would she do this?" Reid frowned. "Why would she damage her brain? She's smart - she wouldn't do that. . ."
"You said so yourself, kid. Very smart people think differently to us normal people." Morgan said. Reid frowned at his words.
"And you wanted me to be with her." Reid chuckled humourlessly.
"And you still can." Prentiss told him. "Like Garcia said, Estela used to take drugs. She's clean now and changed. You can still be with her."
"But what if I don't want to?" Reid asked them annoyed. Seriously, Reid didn't like Estela; they only met once and barely even spoke with each other. They arrested the guy, and she was gone doing who-knows-what. It wasn't love at first sight. . .was it?
"You want to." Hotch surprisingly said. "You're curious about her. We can all tell."
"We wouldn't mind, kid." Rossi added. "Besides, you deserve it!"
"Well even if I did like her," Reid gave in, "it's not like we'll ever meet again."

Reid and Morgan went into the morgue to see something that startled them greatly. They saw Estela Wellington beating up a dead corpse with a riding crop. She was whipping it harshly and violently, no sign of her stopping. Morgan glanced to Reid in disbelief. "You have a crush on her?"
"No -"
"Ah, Mary!" she beamed at a shy-looking girl who was dressed in a lab coat. The two men came to a conclusion that she worked there and was the person they were to talk to about the local case. "I want to know what type of bruises form in the next twenty minutes. Pictures and information will be nice -"
"Ahem." Morgan fake coughed, getting their attention. Estela glanced at them for a second, recognition crossing her face. "Um. . .we're here for -"
"For the case here." Estela concluded.
"I thought you lived in New York?" Reid said confused, since the team and her met at New York. They were back in Virginia.
"Nope, I live here in this boring city." she shrugged. "I just knew the detective there and heard about the interesting case."
"O. . .kay. . ." Morgan said slowly. He turned to Reid. "I'm gonna go check out the victim now. . ."
"You go ahead, I'll catch up." Reid assured him. When Morgan and 'Mary' were at the other side of the morgue, Reid slowly made his way to Estela who was looking through a microscope. She didn't react to his presence until he awkwardly cleared his throat. "Er. . .hi."
"Doctor." she said curtly, giving him a once-over before looking down at her microscope.
"So you left quite an impression on the FBI -"
"Good or bad?"
"Good." Reid said quickly. She gave him a look of doubt. "Honestly, it was amazing how fast you profiled - I mean, deduced the Unsub."
"Unsub. . ." she murmured. "Hmm, so that's what you call 'em."
"Yeah. . ." he shuffled in his spot awkwardly.
"Is there a reason why you are here, Doctor?"
"Oh!" Reid released a small sheepish laugh, rubbing the back of his neck while doing so. Estela merely stared at him with a blank look, all attention on him. "My team and I were wondering if you'd like to join -"
"No." and just like that, she was back to whatever she was doing. Reid blinked at her fast response.
"No?"
"No." she confirmed. "I don't do well with rules, you see. I like to do my job without those rules and just do it my way. Besides, I work alone."
"And Mary?" Reid motioned to the shy girl across the room. "She's just an acquaintance?"
"What do you mean?" she looked at him confused.
"Well, a local can't just come into the morgue and do. . .'experiments' with dead bodies whenever they feel like it." Reid said in a matter-of-factory tone. "From what I can see, Mary secretly allows you into the morgue whenever you like and experiment on dead corpses. So that means Mary is an acquaintance or close friend of yours. So really, you don't work alone. You have someone there to let you in the morgue without any questions."
Estela's blank face turned into a small impressed smile. "Impressive skills at deducing, Doctor." she complimented. "Yes, Mary is an acquaintance. Met her when she first joined and replaced Doctor Cooper who died of old age. Used to let me in that old man. He told her before he died to let me in whenever I want. During that time, I became used to Mary's presence so whenever I need her to let me in, I'd just call her. It's better to be here than going somewhere getting high." Reid then recalled to what Garcia said about Estela's past-addiction. Reid guessed that if he were to date her, he'd rather her experiment on dead bodies than take drugs. Prentiss was right; there was a small chance he could be in a relationship with her. . .if he had the guts to ask her.
She grabbed a notebook and pen and went to the dead body from before, Reid trailing behind. "Very impressive, Doctor Reid." she said while writing down notes about the body. "You might be useful in the future."
"In the future?"
"Here's the deal." she turned to him. "If you ever need my help, I'll help only if you guys help me back for anything."
"Deal." Reid agreed.
"And I'd also like to have dinner with you tonight."
"What!" Reid choked on his breath. Did a beautiful, breathtaking woman just ask me out?
"You heard me." she smirked, grabbing her coat. "You're different than the other men in the world. I like it."

When Estela left the building, Reid walked to Morgan and Mary, looking to be in a daze. "Hey, you okay Reid?" Morgan asked him concerned.
"Y-yeah." Reid stuttered.
"So what did you and Estela talk about?" Morgan asked him curiously."
"W-well, I mentioned the job offer for her. . ."
"Yeah?"
"She didn't want it."
"What!"
"But!" Reid quickly rushed out. "She's willing to help only if we help her back with whatever she wants."
"Okay, done." Morgan shrugged. He narrowed his eyes at him, suspecting something. "Okay kid, spill it out."
"Hmm?" Reid hummed absently, studying the dead body in front of them. "Spill what?"
"There's more on your mind than that." Morgan stated.
"Um. . .I may, or may not have a date with her."
"Whoa, what!"
