A/N: This is just a small fluff between Erik and the OC. No love between the two, just a sibling thing (although the OC and Charles get together). I read a fanfic of Erik being nice and protective to the OC, and I just wanted to create one. So yeah!

The Human
It was snowy and cold in Moscow, everyone inside a building for warmth. Except one. The young woman was huddled in a corner in an abandoned alleyway, shivering. She had no home; she escaped from the Nazis leaving the area where they had killed her parents. She was homeless, poor, hungry, cold. . .
She had her eyes closed in an attempt to sleep when she suddenly heard the sound of footsteps approaching her. She opened her eyes and looked up through the darkness with the small amount of light from the streets and saw a tall man towering over her. He wore a black turtle neck with a trench coat, jeans and boots to finish his look. He had a stone-hard look on his face, and was staring down at her blankly. The two stared at each other for a while when he suddenly held out a hand for her to take.
"You're going to die if you stay any longer out here." he told her in Russian. "Come with me. I'll give you a place to stay."

She tried pulling Erik away from the submarine and pull him to the surface before the two could die from drowning. She noticed at the corner of her eye something jumping into the water near them, making her panic, thinking it was someone after them.
She tried pulling Erik, which made her use up most of her oxygen. So she just looped an arm through Erik's and felt herself losing unconsciousness. The last thing she saw was someone appearing on the other side of Erik.

Erik and the man resurfaced, the man holding an unconscious girl. Erik's eyes widened when he realised who it was. "Bella!" Erik quickly grabbed the girl from the man's arms. He glared at the man. "What did you do to her?" Erik demanded. The man held his hands up in surrender.
"I did nothing!" the man said. "She was losing oxygen from trying to get you to leave." Erik felt guilt gather inside though he didn't show it. Instead he turned his gaze back to the disappearing submarine. "Come on," the man said, "let's get you and Bella somewhere warm. I'm Charles by the way."
"Erik Lehnsherr," Erik said back, "though you seem to have known that anyway. . ."
"I'm like you." Charles pointed to his head. "I can read minds." Charles turned his gaze to the unconscious Bella. "We should get her somewhere safe."

Bella opened her eyes to see she was in a bland-looking room. She sat up immediately when she remembered her last moments. "Erik?" she called out to her brother-like figure. She started panicking when her mutant friend was nowhere in sight. "Erik!"
The door opened revealing Erik and a man. Seeing her scared face, Erik made his way to her. "It's okay," he told her, "you're alright."
"Where are we?" Bella asked him quietly. "What happened after I blacked out?"
"Charles persuaded me to leave the submarine and go back up to the surface." Erik explained. "It was a good thing too, since you were unconscious."
"Where are we?"
"We're at a CIA base." the man at the doorway responded. He hadn't moved from his spot when Erik had opened the door and instead observed the two. From what he saw, they were close, but not lover close. . .
"I'm Charles Xavier." he introduced. "The one that went in the water for you both."
"Bella." Bella returned. "W-why are we at a CIA base?"
"Don't worry, nothing bad." Charles assured her. "The government doesn't mind us mutants here since we have a problem - although from what I saw, you don't have any mutations. Why are you here with Erik? Not that I mean any offence or anything." Charles gave a small sheepish smile.
"He's all I have left in the world." Bella replied evenly. Erik's face remained blank, though inside he felt the same way for Bella. Ever since his mother died, he never felt closure until he saw her in the alleyway. Erik had meant to just bring her somewhere warm and a place to stay, but instead found she wanted to tag along instead. At first he claimed her annoying and wanted to ditch her; but then when he almost got hit by a car, Bella had tackled him to the ground. She had tears pouring out of her eyes from fear. That was when he realised he had someone that cared about him, and during those seconds when he almost died, he thought about how he'd actually miss her presence. If anything, it made him hate less on the humans. There were still nice people like Bella out there. She was like a little sister he never had.
"I see." Charles smiled softly. He had witnessed what Erik had thought of, and felt respect for the man. And the way Erik saw Bella, she was quite a lovely woman. He wanted to get to know her more. "If you'd like, I could give you two a tour of the place, since Erik refused to leave the room beside yours until you woke up."
"How long have I been out?"
"Only for a couple of hours." Charles assured her. He motioned to the hallways. "Shall we?"

"Charles."
"Hmm?" Charles looked up from the chess game. Charles and Erik were sitting together in Charles' study, playing a game of chess. Everyone was asleep in the mansion, even Bella who was terrified of being separated from either of the two after the incident at the base. She had stayed behind with the mutants when Shaw and his men attacked the base. Alex and Hank had stood in front of Bella to hide her from Shaw. Knowing Shaw, he would have gotten Azaezal to kill her instantly for being a human. That scared Erik and Charles the most. After that, for a while Erik stayed with Bella in the room while she slept. Not only was she scared, but he was scared for losing his 'little sister'.
"I've noticed the way you look at her." Erik told him bluntly.
"Who?" Charles avoided his eyes, moving his bishop. "Check."
"You like Bella." Erik said bluntly, moving his King. "And not in the friend way."
"And you don't like it." Charles realised, having read his thoughts. "I can't help who I fancy, Erik."
"Bella means a lot to me." Erik said firmly.
"And she does to me."
"You don't understand," Erik shook his head, "she is the reason why I am not even killing humans. Because she's human, and she means a lot to me. She's like a little sister to me."
"I understand, Erik." Charles murmured, looking up at him from the game. "I won't hurt her, she's too innocent for that."
"You better not, or else you're gonna find yourself in deep trouble from me." Erik told him.
"Same for you." Charles added casually.
"Excuse me?" Erik raised an eyebrow at him.
"With your different opinions, I am sure something is going to happen." Charles said thoughtfully. "So don't hurt her, or else you're gonna be in trouble with me."
"I won't hurt Bella." Erik promised him. "I'd never hurt her intentionally."

"Erik. . ." Bella murmured. She and the others had just witnessed Erik emerge from the submarine using his powers, a limp, dead Shaw following after him. He had then dropped him, moving to stand on the opposite side of them. He explained to them about the truths in humanity; how the enemies were the humans, who wanted to kill every single mutant on Earth. "You know that's not true. . ."
"I'm afraid it is, Bella." Erik said in a monotone voice. He motioned to the ships of the humans and the frozen missiles. "Look at them. They were firing all their missiles at us, ready to kill us. This is the truth about humans."
"So you're saying I am like them?" she said offended. "That I want to kill you? Kill Alex? Sean? Raven? Charles? Hank?"
"Not everyone can see us like you, Bella." Erik said gravely. "I'm sorry for hurting you in this way."
"You promised." Charles said lowly. "You promised you wouldn't hurt her."
"Promises were made to be broken." Erik replied. He then focussed on the floating missiles, making them aim back to the owners.

Years later. . .
He watched in the distance as Charles and Bella danced at their reception, everyone staring at them in awe. Charles and Bella had gotten married after the whole Trask thing with Raven. It was bound to happen, Erik realised. Bella was now safe with Charles instead of him.
He smiled a rare smile at the sight of Bella being carefree and happy, his smile widening when he saw the necklace that was around her neck. It was a simple chain, but it had his dog tags on them. Bella still cared for him despite their different opinions.
Erik went to leave the mansion, but not without leaving a wedding present at their doorstep. It was a simple photo of them all. Before they had went to Cuba, Bella persuaded them to take a photo of the three for good memories. Bella was in the middle with a wide smile, arms wrapped around the two. Charles was smiling widely as well, his arm around her shoulder. Erik had a small smirk, since Bella wanted him to smile in the photo. In an attempt to make him smile, Bella had said in a funny voice, "Hello, I'm Charles Xavier and I know everything about you because I am just like that. A magician!"
Evidently, Charles wasn't amused by that but Erik was. Then without Erik looking, Bella had kissed Charles on the cheek to make him smile - hence the wide smile.
Erik glanced at the two one last time, taking in their happy, peaceful looks, before making his leave. Erik didn't have to worry anymore about Bella's safety. She was safe with her husband and her friends, she didn't need protection from Erik anymore.
