I had awaken and ordered some breakfast the hotel had. Nick came out stretching his arms, if I asked what his night was he would have lied. I know the feeling. I prepared dishes for the both of us and ate with him as happily as we could. What I would give to stop any of this silence. We silently put the empty plates onto he tray and put it outside the door for them to pick up and went back to our rooms to pack up quickly and get out of this town. For a couple of hours we just listened to the radio.
"So what are we going to tell the others?" I pried. I knew I shouldn't have said but everyone in our room knew where we were going so of course they would want to know how it ended.
"I'll just fake it, please do the same? I honestly don't want them to see me even weaker than I am."
"You're not weak. Anyone who survived that is not weak." I said softly. He merely chuckled and thanked me.
"Besides, you have bigger problems anyway."
"What?"
"Your fiancé problems. Knowing Charlotte she's still not going to be happy that you and Carter are still candidates."
"She knows that I am with Adam."
"You realize that everyone in the community knows all three of you are candidates to each other but what would happen if Carter was seen with Charlotte?" I hadn't thought of that, I mean wouldn't it be obvious that I chose Adam? Then again, parents are to be dealt with.
"We'll see what happens."
"Well we're back home, I'll drop you off." he said to me. We pulled up to my house and I took my stuff, I went to his mirror and gave him a smile.
"Don't worry, we have plenty of time." It started to snow as I waved him off. Christmas would be here soon and I honestly couldn't wait. The holiday is a great way for me to forget all about the small meaningless mistakes that have come to pass. I opened the door and looked around, it was empty of course. No correction, I saw Adam laying there watching T.V.
"I'm back." I called out. He didn't answer the silent treatment. He was acting childish and I don't think he'll let it go. "Sorry I left you here but I'm back." Still there was no answer, I came up to the couch and he was just there lying on the couch with his head propped up with his elbow.
"Come on, stop being childish." I was getting pissed off now. I went over to him when I heard him snoring. This man was really aggravating, I pushed him off the couch and he landed with a loud thump. He groaned.
"I'm up, I'm up." Yes, my other candidate is the problem.
"How long have you stayed here?"
"Since you've been gone." he said meekly.
"Did you at least go to school?"
"Yes mom." I rolled my eyes and told him to go wash up. Then I sat down where he sat and propped my feet up. Grandma wasn't here so it was okay. She is currently staying at the hospital for support. So instead I'm in charge of going to parties like always and the tiresome meetings at the companies. I suddenly hear a phone ringing and I'm trying to find it. I finally find it under the sofa where Adam was sleeping, I looked at the screen cover and it was a girl’s name. Karah, the same girl we briefly met at Charlie's party. I would have answered but then that would mean snooping so I left it near me hoping it would stop ringing. It kept calling and calling and after I heard the water turn off from the bathroom did the ringing stop. This girl made me stiff, I don't know why and I probably have the correct hunch but it still made me want to gag. Unfortunately when I thought it was done she had texted him, over and over to the point where my ears were now deafening and surprisingly I was glad. It meant I didn't have to hear the deathly noise until he came down.
