"Katie!" I bolted awake as soon as someone shrieked my name. In came the little elf, my little sister Violet. She was fake crying, such a faker.
"What do you want?" I said yawning.
"Can you fix my hair?" she cried. I opened one eye and saw that her hair was a mess, she had a braid on I believe and I guess she didn't take it out and properly comb it through. It was going in every direction; I tried not to laugh as she saw me trying so I laughed at it anyway.
"Can you fix it?" she sniffed. That looked like a lot of work and I didn't feel like doing it but she whimpered so I sighed.
"Get me my brush, bobby pins and hairspray." I stretched out as I said it. She dashed through the door and when I got up she was back and sitting at the side of my bed. That somewhat amused me, she held the brush up and I smoothed it through her hair. She calmed down a bit; it looked like she was in some fairy land. I did another braid on her; I had some artificial flowers I made next to my lamp so I took them and put them in the braid. It looked pretty to me so I put on hair spray and I told her to go look in the mirror. She squealed and I shrugged and forced myself back on the bed. My alarm went off and I groaned and threw a pillow at it. Violet turned it off and I waved her goodbye without looking at her, she was mom's favorite, better for her than me I think.
Always meeting mom's expectations while as I disappointed her. One slip up from Violet and it would all be over and that's why it's better for her than me because she knows this. I also know this but mom never expected much out of me anyway so I do whatever as long I don't "disgrace" the family. Well whatever, that'd just be disgracing myself anyway so I'm not going to do that. I got up brushed my teeth and did all the other crap you do in the morning before school. I got a bagel and headed out but Dad stopped me.
"Need a ride?" he asked. I shrugged, I really felt lazy so I got in the car and we headed to school.
"Are you going to work today?"
"Probably, better to be out then in the house doing nothing when everyone's gone to do their work." I said bluntly.
"Don't be like that, they all love you, I know they do."
"Keep telling yourself that."
"Jonathan is never around because he works on the other side of town and every time you visit he's gone, Violet is a kid model and your mom just wants to finish work."
"What are your excuses?" I asked him.
"I do work too."
"Yeah, okay whatever you say."
"Are you free tomorrow night?" he asked. I shook my head and he nodded, if I asked him he would either lie or change the subject. That is life experience there.
"I'll tell them I have a family thing."
"The manager treating you right?" he asked.
"He knows but that doesn't change the fact that I'm a part timer."
"Well, is that bad?"
"I like his honesty actually, even though he treats me like a brat." I chuckled.
"Well that's you, although that's a peculiar way of thinking." he said. I shrugged because I really didn't think it was an odd way of thinking. It’s just a simple way of thinking. He dropped me off and I causally waved at him and went inside the school, well let the fun begin.
