Going to school was the least of my problems. Right now every time I was with Adam, Kara would come over asking Adam to help her and I guess being the "gentleman" he helped her. I didn't trust her and neither did Alise.
"Honestly, can't she take even the slightest hint?"
"I don't know Alise. I can't help but feel that Adam feels the same."
"What do you mean? I thought you told him you trust him?"
"I saw him with Kara when my brother and I went to get lunch," I sighed, "He didn't see me because I was in a cafe."
"And he didn't see you or your brother?" I shook my head.
"Does it matter though?"
"Katie, it matters because you two are betrothed and you also like him."
"That's the thing though, we're betrothed. How do I know it would have been different if we weren't?"
"Well, you have the advantage right?"
"Rather it's a disadvantage. What were to happen if he had a choice? Would he choose me or her?" We came to the door with her still trying to encourage me to keep hold of him but I didn't want that. Why should I be the one to keep him? Anyway it's not right for me to keep him with the engagement as an excuse. We came to my class and I waved her off. Coming to the desk I crossed my legs looking out the window. I spend time looking out the window more and more. I want to be cut loose by him. I know it will hurt and I can't imagine how much but it's better than being a string to his game.
"I'm so sick of them!" I heard a familiar voice.
"Calm down, we'll figure this out." I heard Dylan say. John, Andrew and Dylan came in. They all crowded around Andrew's and John's desk.
"Hey, what happened?" I asked turning to them.
"We lost--" Andrew started.
"Because they cheated!" Dylan almost shouted.
"Who cheated?"
"Well, Dylan believes our sister school, Belle, cheated during the tennis tournament."
"Wait, Belle Academy all the way from London?"
"Well we are a rich school." John said.
"You have some doubt right?" Dylan asked Andrew.
"Look, we can't really go pointing fingers, they were pretty swift."
"And what can you say about Cole's injury? That can't be a coincidence."
"I don't know Dylan, we can't be sure." Andrew said.
"How bad was the score?" I asked.
"30-80, it wasn't a pretty sight."
"Where's Cole, and what happened to him?"
"He was injured in one of our practices by someone who Dylan thinks got paid to do."
"Is he okay?"
"Well having tennis balls constantly attacked on you is not fun especially if it lands in your eye." Dylan said.
"Have you found a replacement?" I asked.
"No, I mean all four of us are the best in our league but nobody but us could possibly compare to them."
"So why can't either of you play with John tomorrow?"
"Against rules, it's actually free tennis. We choose any partner we want but nobody can play twice."
"And that's because?"
"They believe the teams will have an advantage by knowing the other opponents strength if they watch the match."
"They're pretty paranoid about this." Dylan said.
"I can tell, so who are you going to choose John?"
"Well the people in our team don't particularly qualify and they've all ducked down ever since the match yesterday so I don't know."
"We need to find someone great to beat there asses." Dylan said.
"Agreed, I can't help but feel as though the referee gave them points even though it was out." Andrew said.
"Well, you want me to be your partner?" I asked.
"What did you just say?" Dylan asked shocked.
"Honestly, I asked if you would accept me as your partner."
"We heard you--" started Andrew.
"We just weren’t sure if we heard--" John said before getting cut off.
"Right," Dylan said.
"Honestly, you three are sexist."
"We're not it's just we've never seen you active and let's just say we're not really sure." I got up and glared at them, they all backed away just a little bit.
"How about we play and let's see." I challenged. All three of them looked at each other and shrugged. They were underestimating me so now I just had to beat them at their best game.
We're outside, graduation for the seniors are almost coming up. That means Dylan and Cole are graduating this spring. The flowers are a bloom near the courtyard. I'm in a simple tennis get up, I'm surprised they had outfits for people out of the blue but then again it is a rich school.
"Well are you ready?" Dylan asked. I gripped my racket and stood in a stance that I remember vaguely.
"Nice posture, if you keep your knees out more it'll give you more power." John said. I did as he told and Andrew was my first opponent.
"Better move if you don't want to get hit," I said to John as I looked at the tennis ball bouncing up and down. "Well, are you going to serve or not Andrew?"
"Don't get your top knot in a twist." Andrew snapped.
"Whatever you say, let's see what you've got." That triggered his serve, he was fast I'll give you that but I swung the racket and the ball bounced back speeding past his leg. He stood there still waiting in a stance. It took a few seconds for him to realize that ball was on his side.
"Well, are you going to bounce it back?" Someone asked. None of us said it. We looked around until I saw them behind me. Two girls, twins with the same exact cheek bones. Honestly, I don't understand why I've been meeting twins lately. It's a bit creepy like I have a twin disease.
"And you are?" I asked coming towards them.
"Your competition tomorrow."
"Come to spy on us have you?" Dylan asked not so sporty like.
"Just to scope what we'll be up against."
"We're playing you?" Andrew said in a surprised tone.
"Hope that doesn't scare you." One girl said, okay that was snarky but a little funny. Might have chuckled a little and made my friends a bit pissed but then I saw a smile creep on her face. This might be a stretch but it almost seemed like she knew I would laugh at that.
"Well can't wait to play you guys tomorrow, come on El, we should go."
"I wonder how tough they are." John said.
"Who knows, I guess we'll just have to find out."
