Sunday evening.
Bed.
"Knock knock."
"Bridget, there's no point in knocking when you're already in the room." I rolled over onto my back, looking up at the ceiling.
"You're either still hungover, or incredibly bored. Wait, you're not supposed to be drinking are you?" she frowned looking over me, her newly trimmed blonde locks fell gently over her shoulders.
"Nope. Too late to care now isn't it?" I asked, she scoffed before sitting at the window, the quiet echo of life below continued on.
"I guess. You and Tom have been so secretive recently. What's going on?" she asked, I shrugged sitting up, gathering my jumper in my hands.
"Nothing, I was just thinking out loud and he listened."
"Anything I can help with?" she asked, I shook my head looking over at her; her shoulders slumped slightly.
"No, it's okay. He's been keeping me company that's all."
"I guess I've been too busy with Marc recently to notice."
"Rightfully so, you both work all the hours of the day. You ought to enjoy your free time. You've bloody earnt it. Don't worry about me." I winked, her smile faint but honest.
"If you say so. Something isn't right, I'm blonde, but not that stupid. Anyway I think you're going to be happier in a moment." She teased, the giggle in her voice gave nothing away.
"Is Marc going to serve me strawberries and cream naked?" I stretched looking over as I said it.
"Rosie!"
"Bridget, I couldn't have been more deadpan if I tried. Lovely as Marc is, I never have and never will have any desire to see him in anything less than swimming trunks, pasty and pale for all the world to see."
"That's my husband you're insulting!"
"One, you're smiling because you know it's funny, and two...there's a few days before you become Mrs Marc Cornelius Darcy and spend the rest of your life holidaying in the Cotswolds."
"Yes well enough about me. Ben's here, didn't he tell you he'd be able to come earlier after I changed the dates around? He's busy, probably forgot. That's why I was teasing by the way. You've looked nothing but love sick since last night." She gurgled, I nodded going along with it.
"Well, maybe you should bugger off then. Nothing worse than being in the company of two lovelorn idiots who can't be apart for more than five minutes." I uttered heading to the door.
"I've witnessed enough of your nonsense to not be sickened by it, but I can take a hint." She winked, I shook my head as she walked past, a startled noise escaping her in the hallway.
"Ben, I'm so sorry. You shouldn't creep up here like that! Merlin, darling!"
"And kill you off before your wedding day? I'd rather not." Ben smiled down at her, her blush imminent, his eyes cutting over at me judgingly.
I looked down.
"Enough with the pleasantries. Have a quick rest and meet us downstairs in about an hour, we're all going out for an informal dinner. And tell that girlfriend of yours to go easy on the nicotine. Reeks like an ashtray." She smirked, my eyes doing a 180 before she trundled off down the hallway. I closed the door after him and Merlin, the only sound being Merlin's excited patter at my feet.
Leaning against the door I watched him unpack, choosing his side of bed, the side always closest to the door, I always wanted to be furthest away from the door.
