Monday morning.
Bed.
Lying there I could hear him next to me, his snores the sign of an exhausted man.
...
Sitting up against the headboard I simply waited, watching the rise and fall of Merlin's belly as he too slept, completely forgotten last night; abandoned and let down. Just as Ben probably, no, definitely felt.
...
"What do you want to do today?" Ben quietly, slowly asked. Confused I looked over at him waking up, his face gave away nothing.
"Well I guess I'd like to go the Musée Picasso, you said a while ago you'd like to see his works the last time we were here, it's usually quiet on a Monday."
"Rosie."
"Ben?" I asked.
"What would you like for breakfast?"
"I'm not really hungry."
"You need to eat something."
"I know, um whatever you have, I'll have that too then." I looked over at him, he nodded adjusting the waistband of his boxers before heading out of the room; dumbfounded I rolled over, apprehensive.
...
He came back a few minutes later with two plates, and two glasses of orange juice. It looked like I was having a small fruit salad, I didn't mind.
"Thank you." I said sitting up, he passed me a plate and the fork sitting by my feet, his touching the heated flooring.
We ate in silence.
...
"I spoke with Bridge; told her we'll be on our own today. She understood." He said it so calmly, I simply nodded.
Zipping up my jeans I turned to face Ben, dressed similarly in a black leather jacket, jeans, and a white t-shirt, Merlin padded by his feet waiting for a cuddle.
"You look very nice today Rosie." Ben mentioned looking up at me, I nodded tucking my t-shirt in, unsure.
"Thank you. You look lovely too." I added. Sitting at the end of the bed he beckoned me to join him.
Sitting next to him, he cleared his throat. "Last night, a lot was said. Too much was said."
"I know Ben, I-."
"Listen. I don't want to push you, and I'm not having an argument about it. Knowing what's going on in your head helps me to feel less anxious, I just want to help and that means talking to you. Is that alright?" He calmly asked, I nodded again.
"Do you feel okay today? You slept like a baby last night."
"I do. You look tired, did you sleep much?" I just about said, guilt forming a lump in my throat.
"I'm fine."
"Right. Well, that's good then." I exhaled, his hand rested in my lap.
"We really need to talk. About everything. We talk to each other and we work something out. We're not going to do it right now though, okay?" he asked.
"I understand." He rubbed his eyes, he looked more tired than he was letting on.
"Do you fancy wearing sunglasses today? I'd rather we went out unnoticed." he added, he just looked fed up, I couldn't blame him.
