Waking up in my bed, I looked around and it was light out. I walked downstairs and found a note on the refrigerator. "Violet, I took Alex to school, and Jason called you in sick and explained that he is now your guardian. Get some rest and be ready to go to school tomorrow - xoxo Luke" I looked around the house and felt empty. I looked at the time and it was noon. Walking to the drawer, I grabbed some cereal and sat down and turned the T.V. on. I couldn’t believe that it's been a year since I've moved here. Everything has changed. I hated leaving Andy but I knew I couldn’t lead him on. I didn’t want to hurt him. I started to flip the channels until I found a decent movie. The doorbell rang, and I cautiously walked to the door. It was a lady dressed in casual clothes holding some cleaning supplies. I opened the door and gave her a look.
"Hello, you must be Violet. I am the cleaner and maid if you wish. Jason hired me; he said you would be getting back this week."
"Oh, okay, sorry yeah, come in." I said letting her in.
"Alright, I'm going to start upstairs, and I assume you haven’t unpacked, so I'll do some laundry today." She said before heading up the stairs.
I headed back to the kitchen to put my bowl away and go to the Library to just rest. I woke up when a door opened. I shot up and looked around. Then I heard Alex's voice. I smiled to myself and walked to the kitchen. Alex saw me and a huge smile appeared as he ran to me. I hugged him and he seemed to have endless questions. I made him a snack then explained everything that happened.
"So you were a spy, and then a fight broke out between hunters and vampires…and then there is a war going on in the vampire world! That is so crazy! How is Andrew?" Alex asked.
"He is alright." I said.
"Is he a good King?" Alex asked looking up at me expectantly.
"He is a new King, and has had a tough couple months, and will have more troubles in the next few months, but he is good hearted." I said.
"So he isn’t a good King?" Alex said sadly.
"It's not that he isn’t a good King, it's that he has been chosen in a rough time. Dacre who has ruled the vampires for countless years dies and before dying appoints Andy as his successor… It just caused a bit of trouble, and Andy has had a hard time getting back on his feet." I tried explaining.
"Oh, well I hope Andy is having fun and that he is happy. I miss him." Alex said.
"We all miss him and he misses us. Trust me; he would come back in a heartbeat if he could." I said.
"Okay, now that you are back, let's play! I've missed playing with you!" Alex said pulling me along.
We played for about an hour before I check to see if I had any homework I had to catch up on. I luckily didn’t have much since school just started. I only missed the first week and a half, so it wasn’t that bad. I was just about to finish when the maid came in and started to boil some water. She told me she was basically going to be staying with us until Jason comes back, and she knows about Alex's special diet. I nodded and went back to finishing my homework. Alex came in and asked for some help on his own homework, and when we were done dinner was ready. I had chicken with a side of broccoli and a small portion of pasta, while Alex had a cup of blood with some pasta, broccoli and a small portion of raw meat.
The next morning I got up and did my morning routine and found Alex almost ready himself. I heard Luke from downstairs, and I rushed down and hugged him. He then kissed me and smiled at me. Alex interrupted the sweet moment with an "Eww!". I laughed at him and then we ate breakfast and headed out to the car. Once we dropped off Alex we went to school. We now had lockers in the senior hall which was nice, because it never got extremely crowded where you couldn’t get to class on time. My morning consisted of a free first period with pre-calc after and international relations after. I went to the café and set up my computer and listened to music and watched some funny videos. The bell rang and I headed to math where I had the same teacher as last year. I sat down and got out my books and when I looked next to me I was paralyzed. It was Trace. He hadn’t noticed me yet or he would have freaked. I turned my head away quickly and cursed silently. I looked back through my hair and he looked at me and his face paled.
"Violet? What the hell?!"
"Yeah, I could say the same to you! What the hell are you doing here?!" I demanded.
The teacher looked at us and gave a look but continued to write on the board.
"Stupid parents said I should have a better education this year to impress colleges or some shit like that. Why are you here?"
"Um…Vlad made me go here last year, and now Jason has taken guardianship over me and I decided to stay. But can't you leave? I mean, you don't want to go here, so just go." I said then turned to face the smart board.
"Harsh much! But don't worry I hate it just as much, especially knowing I go to school with a traitor!" He spat back.
"How could I honestly be on your side when he murdered my parents! Or didn’t you know?" I spat back.
"He what?" Trace asked seriously this time.
"Yeah, I found out at the end of last year that he murdered them, not vampires. He trained me since I was five to kill vampires and once I started putting things together it didn’t make sense that vampires killed my parents. So Luke, Vince who doesn’t go here, and I solved the mystery and Vlad killed them." I whispered to him, my eyes tearing up.
Trace got up and pulled me up and hugged me, and I hugged back, because at that moment Trace was understanding and not a jerk.
"Violet?" Luke said. I immediately let go of Trace.
"Hey Luke! I didn’t know you would have this class." I said awkwardly.
"Yeah, who is this?"
"This is Trace." I said sitting back in my seat. Luke took the seat on the other side of me.
"Hey Trace…nice to meet you." Luke said.
"You too. Anyways, I am sorry Violet. I now understand what was going on back in the summer with you. I am sorry I gave you trouble. But this doesn’t change anything, just FYI." Trace said then turned to the board.
That class felt like it was an eternity. I still couldn’t wrap my head around Trace being here, at school with Luke and me. Trace ignored Luke and I the whole class. When the bell rang Trace was the first one out of the class. When Luke and I were getting our lunch I spotted Trace, and he was not having an easy time fitting in. But he is the enemy, I can't show weakness, even though I wanted to help him. Luke pushed me to the café.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I replied.
"Violet…did something happen between you and Trace?" Luke asked looking into my eyes.
