I nodded and got up slowly and took a deep breath and walked to the doorway to see Bruce in the hospital bed and a small smile appeared on his face.
"Hey…" I greeted softly.
"Hey," Bruce responded.
"How are you feeling?" I asked walking into the room next to him.
"Shitty, but I’ll be alright in a couple days. What are you still doing here?" Bruce asked.
"Charles couldn't stay…and he said you would have wanted me to stay and Charles wanted me to stay also in case there was any news," I explained softly.
"Charles was right," Bruce said with a weak smile and I blushed and looked down.
"Tomorrow, we will need to talk about what happened," Bruce whispered.
"Alright, for now please rest," I said as I got up.
"Okay, just know that everything will be fine," Bruce said before I left.
I then sat down in the chair outside his room and called Charles to let him know Bruce woke up and spoke to me, and that he was alright for sure. Charles was very relieved and thanked me for staying. Again I drifted to sleep and when I awoke it was nine in the morning. I stood up and stretched and was soar from sleeping in a chair. Heading to the cafeteria I spotted a little girl with her mother, and the child was crying which broke my heart. Grabbing some toast I sat down and ate slowly thankful that Bruce was going to recover. A nurse walked over to me when I finished and told me Bruce requested for my presence.
I almost sprinted to his room but remembered I was in a hospital so I sped walked to his room and when I walked in he looked better than last night. He smiled and the nurse pulled up a chair for me to sit on. I thanked her before she closed the door.
"How are you?" Bruce asked.
"Me? You're asking how I'm doing when you're the one who almost died?" I choked.
"Yes I am asking you, it's not easy to be on your side of the situation either," Bruce pointed out.
"I was really worried, everyone was, and then when I spoke to you last night I felt better, and I feel even better speaking to you now, seeing that you are doing better than last night," I replied softly trying to keep my voice from shaking.
"I'm glad to hear that you and everyone are doing fine. And I am recovering. But I need to tell you what happened, the doctors have already asked me and I told them I couldn’t remember anything but I do remember. I was on my way home when Diane woke up and she was angry and she started hitting me in frustration and I tried to hold her back and then we were yelling. Then she started shifting, so I grabbed that stick that I used on Jackson…the electric one and I electrified her to keep her weak. She paused and then she punched me and I hit the window and lost control of the car for a moment and she tore the door off the car and scratched my stomach and before I knew it she was gone and I crashed…and that's all I remember," Bruce spoke softly.
"I knew it had to be because of her…so she is free, maybe I can find her and give her the vaccine?" I offered.
"No, I don't want you near her. I will find her when I am better. So are you going home now that you know I am awake and alive?" Bruce asked.
"Not if you don't want me to," I replied and Bruce took my hand.
"I don't want you sleeping in a chair at night just to stay because of me. You can go home if you desire and if not I can get the nurses to provide you a mattress at the least," Bruce assured.
