Trace stared at me and I shrugged. Taking the book downstairs, I kept my eye out for Poldark but he was gone. Once Trace bought the book we headed over to Bruce's house.
"Hello Ms. Fortune," Charles said as he greeted me at the door.
"Hello Charles nice to see you again," I said as I waited for Trace to lock the car.
"Violet, Trace, I did not expect you," Bruce said with a charming smile.
"We found something," I started.
"No, I found something, and a good find too," Trace said handing the book over to Bruce.
"A curious find this is…where did you get this?" Bruce asked in wonder.
"In the bookstore downtown," Trace said flatly.
"This? In a bookstore? Can't be," Bruce said disbelievingly.
"It was in the downtown book store, and it was written by a vampire who had a friend who was turned. This is the friends' story, but it is coded, so we thought if we gave it to you, you would either gain knowledge or be able to keep us informed," Trace said.
"Of course, yes I will read this, it looks like a great read," Bruce said with a smile.
"Yeah I thought so too, but Violet here looked scared when she saw the size of it," Trace joked.
"Oh really? Not a reader Violet?" Bruce pursed.
"I read…just not that big of books," I said trying to shrug it off.
"Well, if you want you can stay for dinner," Bruce offered.
"That would be great," I said.
"Yeah, maybe for you, but I promised my dad I would eat with him tonight," Trace said.
"Oh, okay, I guess I'll see you tomorrow or something?" I asked.
"Yeah," Trace said before he left.
Sitting down at the table Bruce smiled as he put the book on the chair next to him. Charles brought dinner out, and we thanked him.
"So Violet, you have had no luck finding that Lycan?" Bruce asked.
"Nope, no luck. Bruce, is it true that Lycans fear Vampires and vice versa?" I asked.
"Yes that is true, why do you ask?"
"I was just wondering," I said shrugging.
"Just wondering? I doubt that. I feel like you don't ask something unless you know something or are searching for something," Bruce said with a laugh.
"Okay, fine, so I always have a hidden motive, is that so bad?" I questioned.
"No, I guess not," Bruce said before he took another bite from his dinner.
"So how is the research coming?" I asked.
"Another hidden motive," Bruce questioned eyeing me as I shrugged, "Well, the research is coming, and I tested both of the ways I thought it would work, but it hasn't…so I've been at the drawing board again," Bruce explained.
"Does it ever get frustrating to feel like you're so close, and then when you try it doesn’t work?"
"Oh it is very maddening, but I persevere knowing that my sister and best friend's lives are at stake," Bruce said somberly.
"So you really believe that Vampires are completely bad?" I asked.
"Someone is curious tonight," Bruce noted and continued, "And my view on Vampires is conflicting. I think they are bloodthirsty leeches, but I know that some have control…and I just, I just can't wrap my head around why they would want to stay that way. I just feel like they would benefit from a cure. I just don't see how they could want to kill," Bruce explained getting passionate as he went.
