I stood in the doorway for a moment and then closed the door with thoughts reeling through my head. Bruce looked at me and nodded in understanding and went upstairs. I needed to get my thoughts together. Walking into the living room I thought about what Luke just told me. So he still loved me…he just couldn’t be with me…and me? I can't love him like that anymore…and I think I am falling for Bruce…but knowing Luke still loves me mad things complicated. And Trace being at the station because of what he did to Josh… that was crazy. Eventually I got my head together and walked upstairs to see Bruce lying on the bed reading.
"Hey," I said shyly.
"You can come in, I don't bite," Bruce joked and I walked over and sat next to him on the bed.
"So…" I said trying to break the awkward silence.
"I'm coming with you to the station tomorrow as a witness," Bruce stated.
"That's good," I replied.
"So…" Bruce said putting his book aside.
"I never knew they had that law…" I admitted.
"It's a shock but they must have it for a reason, a good one too," Bruce said.
"What is the good reason?" I questioned.
"What is the vampire lost control on their partner and killed them be accident. The vampire would feel terrible," Bruce said.
"True…they do have a violent nature…I guess," I replied.
"So are you and Luke going to be okay?" Bruce asked.
"I think we will, I think Luke will need time, and well, I have had time, and I got over him a while ago, now it's his turn," I said.
"I see," Bruce said.
"I am over him, of course I will have a weak spot for him, but I am over him," I assured.
"Who are you trying to convince? Me…or you?" Bruce asked seriously.
"You, I think you don't believe me," I stated.
"Okay, just making sure," Bruce said, "So are you nervous for tomorrow to testify that he did hurt you?" Bruce asked referring to Josh.
"I don't know…kind of, I mean the bruises should speak for themselves" I said looking at my ankle and wrists.
"Yeah…" Bruce said uneasy.
I slid closer to him and rested my head on his shoulder and he put his arm around me. Maybe the bullying wasn't the only source of abuse…that's the only reason I would think that this bothered him so much. Soon we realized that we missed lunch and Bruce and I went downstairs and Bruce started to cook.
"I didn't know you could cook," I stated.
"I decided I needed to learn a year ago, and Charles taught me," Bruce said.
"That's nice," I replied walking around the kitchen.
I admired this kitchen. It was beautiful and open. Bruce called me over to taste the food to see if it was ready and tasty.
"Yeah it's done and really good," I replied.
"Glad to hear that, or I would have had to start all over," Bruce joked which made me laugh.
"Right, so where are Charles and Jackson?" I asked.
"I don't know…maybe with Jason and Alex," Bruce guessed.
Bruce told me to sit down in the dining room and that he would bring the food in. It took him a couple minutes before he came in and I smiled seeing him be ordinary, and not have Charles do everything for him.
