By Monday Jason was starting to get better, but still had a day or two left of being sick. At school I found Trace before class and told him what happened with Luke so he would know why I might be off. If it weren't for Trace I don't know what I would have done, he has been supportive throughout this situation. The morning went by without seeing Luke and without any drama. From what I heard Josh made some amends with Trace, but I knew Trace probably didn't forgive or trust Josh still. At lunch I got a text from Bruce saying that from what he has read in the book it could help him figure out the cure for the werewolves. I texted him back that that was great news.
Violet I also told that girl that I was in a relationship
-Bruce
Really? How did she take it?
-Vi
She didn't believe me... until I said she could come over for dinner and meet her...
-Bruce
That sounds like a sticky situation...
-Vi
Oh it is... and I hope you don't kill me for this but I told her it was you. I panicked, and I honestly don’t know anyone else. I don't really have any friends...
That text surprised me…I didn't know what to reply to that, so what else to do than to find Trace and ask his advice. While searching for him I got another text.
Violet, I know this is strange...but I would really appreciate if you would pretend to be my girlfriend... please tell me that didn't sound as lame as it did in my head
-Bruce
And I still couldn’t find Trace so I called him.
"Violet, uh what's up I'm kind of busy if you know what I mean," Trace said obviously meaning he was with Zoe.
"Trace, Bruce took my advice on something, and now he is asking me to pretend to be his girlfriend…what the hell am I supposed to do?! I need your help!" I said pathetically.
"I don't even want to know how you got yourself in this one. But oh gosh, well is it really that bad? I mean I can tell you think he is cute," Trace said.
"Yeah, but he is like twenty three," I countered.
"So you are like four or five years apart, my parents were ten years apart, it's no big deal, and it's fake anyway, so just say yes," Trace said simply.
"What? But, oh… damn! Fine…"
"Hey don't be angry at my, you somehow got yourself into this," Trace said and hung up.
It didn't sound lame, and yeah, I will be your fake girlfriend...
-Vi
Thank you so much! It does mean a lot if it gets her off my back! I will pick you up from your school when you get out. I owe you! J
-Bruce
I shook my head at the last text but couldn't help but laugh at the situation. I just somehow ended up in bad or crazy situations no matter what…I guess I see where Luke is coming from. Speak of the devil, he now shows up in the café. He gave a smile from the couch and continued reading his book. I put my cell phone down and grabbed my laptop from my backpack and emailed Jason that I was going over to Bruce's this afternoon and might be home late and reminded Jason what he needed to do to get better.
I was closing my laptop when a college guidance counselor came in and told me we had to meet now because it was the only time he could meet with me this week. I reluctantly went and dealt with the meeting. He asked if I heard back from any schools and informed me on what to do when I heard back and such. When I was done I went back to the café. Walking in I saw my phone was lit up and just turned off as I walked to it. I looked around and saw Luke leave. I clicked my phone to see what he was looking at and it was the conversation with Bruce. And not only the one about the fake girlfriend, but the one that talked about werewolves, but never specifically mentioned what they were. Was Luke really willing to go as far as to check my phone for information? I needed to change my pass code.
Last period I had a free and hunted Luke down. He was not going to get away with looking through my phone. I ran around the whole school looking for him and couldn’t find him. He probably had a college meeting like I had today. I waited in the café until the period ended and I spotted Luke walk down the hall. I was not prepared! I stuffed my laptop in my backpack and threw it over my shoulder as I chased Luke down the hall, but he left and was on the field already.
"Luke!" I shouted and he stopped as I raced up to him and dropped my bag.
