Chapter 7

Kaia began to feel better and Zayn let her out of the bedroom. Tricia and Yaser brought the twins back to the house along with Zain's sisters so they could all celebrate the twins birthday with just a small family dinner.

Louis had dropped off the numerous bags of gifts from Marian the day before.  It took him several trips from the car and Kaia could just shake her head. He stayed for a little bit and they had a cup of tea together. She kept asking him if her sister was alright and how her nephew was doing. While he was friendly and they didn't bite each other's head off like what was the norm, Kaia couldn't help but feel like he was hiding something.

"Is she really okay?"

Louis took a drink of his tea. He wished he could've just dropped off the gifts and left but Kaia was relentless and made him stay. He hated lying to her and he hoped she wouldn't be able to see through his lies.

"I swear to you she's fine," he said looking her dead in the eyes. "She's just tired. She still has to take medication for the infection, but she's okay." The lies he spoke tore at his heart. As much as he wanted to tell her about the cancer, he knew he couldn't. It was Marian's decision. He could see the concern and fear in her eyes.

"And my nephew?"

Louis couldn't help but smile. "Growing like a weed. He's such a happy healthy baby," he said. "He's already got quite the kick already."

Kaia couldn't help but roll her eyes. "Got him a Rovers contract yet?" She asked with a laugh.

"Just an honorary one," he said laughing.

Kaia couldn't help but laugh. "I mean it though Louis if I find out you're hiding anything from me about Marian, you won't like it."

He looked at her and knew she wasn't kidding. "I'm not lying Kaia," he said. "I swear."

She gave him several gifts for Marian and William as well since they wouldn't see each other for Christmas. Several new jumpers and a new journal for Marian so she could write something everyday about William.

Kaia made sure to take dozens of poor the twins and sent numerous ones to Marian.  She and Zayn also chose to post a few on Twitter and Instagram. Which again sent the trends through the roof. Anytime any of the members of One Direction posted anything, things on social media escalated.

She could hardly believe she was the mum of one year old twins.  She was still on vocal rest, but she told Zayn she was going to sing happy birthday to her babies and he relented, for a little while. When Saafa turned down the lights so the only light was from the candles on the cakes, Kaia looked up and saw her husband smiling at her as he held their son. She became very emotional and fought back her tears. She was so happy.  Happier than she had been in what seemed forever.  She had a family that loved her and didn't feel the need to use her or think she owed them something. They loved her for who she was.

The twins received more presents than they knew what to do with. Not just from the Malik family, but from all of their 'uncles' and their families.

After everyone left, they put the twins to bed. Even though Destiny didn't want to, she eventually relented when her Papa was the one to tuck her in. Ahmir went right to sleep once he was in his crib.  He was so like Zayn. He could fall asleep anywhere and in a short amount of time.

Kaia stood and watched them as they slept. She smiled when she felt Zayn wrap his arms around her.

"Can you believe they're a year old already?" She asked him.
