Chapter 16

Kaia grilled Zayn as they drove to the airport.  What did Louis all tell him, how long had he been sick, why wasn't Marian answering her phone? She then began to grill Lottie with the same questions.  She was just as upset as Kaia and had shot off numerous texts to her brother.

Once they were in the air and Kaia and Lottie were sitting with the twins, Zayn pulled out his laptop and began to do some research on RSV and as he read, he glanced up at Kaia.  He could see the stress on her face and he didn't want to tell her what he was reading.  It wasn't good.  And even though William wasn't born as a full preemie, he was still a month early, which made his immune system low and suseptible to viruses and diseases.  The prognosis wasn't good.  He quickly shut his laptop and sat back in his seat and he could feel his head begin to hurt and his heart begin to ache.  And Louis didn't say what kind of cancer that Marian had, but if she too was in the hospital, it wasn't good.

Louis paced the quiet corridor of the hospital.  William was on one floor and Marian was on another.  His mum was sitting with Marian.  She had collapsed at home and Rosalie had to call an ambulance to have her brought in.  Her body was incredibly weak from her not keeping herself properly nourished and taking her medications.  She was now resting and getting IV fluids and was slightly sedated after Louis had told her about their son.  That there wasn't much of anything the doctor's could do for him.  He needed to try to fight this on his own and they would do whatever they could to help him.  He was still in the breathing incubator and was being fed by a tube.  When Louis could hold him, he had to wear a gown and a mask.  It broke his heart and he couldn't stop his tears when William would look up at him with wide eyes and then his little body was wracked with the debilitating cough and he would begin to cry because he didn't understand or know what was happening to him.  Prayers and hope was what he needed the most.

He pulled out his phone and with a heavy sigh, texted those that were his family and that he had so much love for.  He was scared but he knew that they deserved to know.

William is in the hospital.  Zayn and Kaia are on their way and will be here within the hour.  Can you please come? I need to tell you some things in person.  And not just about my son, but about Marian as well.

He quickly hit send and immediately received replies that they were on their way.  He then sent a separate text to Harry with a short simple message.

I need you.  William and Marian are in the hospital.

He wasn't sure if he would even respond, but his phone dinged with a reply.

I'm on my way.

When they landed in London, there were cars waiting for them.  Kaia wanted to go to the hospital immediately, but Zayn told her no.  They needed to take the twins home and get them settled.  His parents and sisters were going to be there waiting for them and Lottie hurried off to the hospital.  When Kaia was in the shower, he told his parents what he knew.  

When Kaia got dressed, she found her husband waiting for her.  He had showered and changed in one of the guest rooms.

"Are you ready?" He asked gently.

She merely nodded.  Before they left, they went to the nursery to kiss the twins.  

The ride to the hospital was silent as George drove them.  She clung to Zayn's hand.  The thought of William being sick was one thing, but being in the hospital because of it terrified her.
