Kaia spent the next couple of days in a daze. Like she was looking out the window of her life,  everything and everyone going about their business. Harry taking Marian to Chemotherapy,  leaving her alone with the twins for a few precious hours of coveted alone time.

Zayn would often tell her it was a phase. Ahmir was an impressionable toddler who loved his Auntie and was responding in the only way he understood.  It didn't make her feel any better. Especially when Zayn would bring  Marian home and Ahmir would drop everything and run into her arms.

It was like daggers in her heart every time she heard her son call Marian mummy.   She tried to push it out of her mind, be Marian's best friend again, but it was becoming increasingly harder to do.

She would  plaster on a fake smile for her husband as she made their nightly meals, then Zayn would put the twins to bed while she cleaned up.   She couldn't take much more.  After the first night when Ahmir refused to go to sleep, Kaia must have spent three quarters of the night trying to get him to lay down and go to sleep to no avail. Her sons stubbornness was trying her patience daily.  All Zayn had to do was kiss Destiny's head and sing to her and she was out. She was starting to feel like her son resented her presence in the house.

She needed to go see Celeste again, but she wasn't ready to confront her feelings for Liam yet. He wasn't even answering her calls. It had been nearly three months since she had heard from him. Maybe that was a good thing. She wasn't sure of anything anymore.

Maybe what she needed was to work out her frustrastion at the gym then hit up the studio. A good writing session and vocal excerice would do her some good. She called up Mark to schedule some intensive workouts to which he agreed. He needed someone to work out.  So she began working out daily. Letting the speed bag deal with her frustrations. It helped a little.

Marian was out with Harry thankfully. He mentioned the fact he was taking her to lunch after therapy to celebrate something. She couldn't even remember what or if she even cared about it anymore.

After her workouts with Mark, she headed to the studio to work on her music as well as to the rehearsal studio to continue with preparations for her tour. No dates had been announced yet, but she wanted everything to be set for when it was announced.

A few more weeks later......

After hearing her son call Marian 'mummy', Kaia fled from the house. Seeing her husband and Marian sitting on the couch looking so cozy with the twins was bad enough.

She got into her car and drove and ended up back at the studio. When she got there she sat in the parking lot and sobbed like she had never cried before. She tried not to cry at home anymore. It didn't pay. No one seemed to care.

After a little while she wiped her face and went inside. There were only a few people there and she went into one of the smaller studios and just sat. She closed her eyes and tried to process everything that had been happening the last few months.

She tried to be strong. She tried to do everything she could for Marian. They went shopping, went to the movies. They got along fabulously when they were away from the twins and the guys. Just like Celeste had suggested.  But when they would get home, it was back to what was beginning to be a normal thing. Ahmir would come running to his auntie and all but ignore his mother.

She took her to appointments, she was there for counseling. It was breaking her down. To the point of not knowing if she even belonged anymore

She wondered if she should just go back home and act like nothing was wrong. Which seemed to be the norm. She put her jacket back on and headed down a hallway. It was dimly lit and she wasn't really paying attention as she seemed to hit a wall. She looked up.
