Chapter 38

Over the next few weeks, Marian had gotten used to going to therapy once a week and chemotherapy every other day. Zayn and Harry would take turns taking her to her appointments.  She was finding that she felt better when Harry drove her and it wasn't anything he did specifically, they rarely talked, but it was just a sense of peace she had in his presence.

Zayn often wanted to talk to her, things he couldn't talk about in front of Kaia or the twins because he knew it would upset his wife. She loved Zayn but sometimes he acted too much like her father.

"Marian, can I see you in the living room please?" Zayn asked one day.

She closed her journal and prayed that Zayn and Kaia were not about to make her so something she hated.  "Yes?" She asked with a grin.

"It's Kaia's birthday, and I have dinner reservations tonight at her favorite restaurant.  I wanted to get her out for a while, so I was wondering if you would be up to watching the twins. You could watch a couple Disney movies with them then put them to bed," he said.

" Oh my God, it is her birthday," Marian gasped.  "I totally forgot about it!"

"It's alright, you've had a lot on your plate lately," he said with a smile.

Her eyes widened.  "I would love to watch them. You trust me to take care of your babies alone?" She asked a little nervous.  "Thank you, Zayn."

" Of course you are family, plus Ahmir would never let anyone else near him when you are around," he joked.

Marian looked around. Noticing the house was a little too quiet.  "Where is Kaia by the way?"

"She had a lunch with a couple of record producers today. They are also working on hammering out the details for her tour, once you are well, off she goes."

"I hate I am the reason her tour got postponed."

"This gives her more time to rehearse and get prepared. She's already a nervous wreck about it, but she's going to be fine.  Why don't you get ready for tonight. Make some snacks for the three of you and I will get the twins ready.  They should be getting up from their nap soon."

" Alright and thanks for having faith in me."

"Always."

"Harry, I can't thank you enough for meeting me at the studio and for agreeing to watch Marian and the twins tonight. Zayn is taking me out to dinner for my birthday. He said it is important for us to have date nights and that we can't forget about the fact we are married and need to celebrate that fact."

Harry hugged her.  "I forgot it was your birthday," he said.  "Happy birthday and you know I would do anything to spend more time with. How does she feel about me coming over?" He asked.  

" Well," she said nervously.  "She doesn't know you are coming.  We thought it could be a surprise and I got to thinking that she could watch the twins alone. I know she loves them but I am worried about something happening and she can't handle it. She is still really weak from all her treatments and she's tired a lot.  Two toddlers is a lot for one person. So if you could help me and just say I asked you to watch her," Kaia pleaded.

"Kaia," Harry said scolding her slightly.  "I'm slowly getting her to get used to me again, becoming friends. I can't lie to her."

"Fine, if I comes up, I'll take the heat because all she does lately is sleep and watch cartoons with Ahmir. She eats apple sauce with my son.   That's it. I even try to make her favorite foods but she just isn't eating.  I don't believe she is strong enough to watch them both. I don't want anything to happen to any of them."
