Chapter 49

Kaia watched as he got up and walked away from her.  She didn't know what else to say to him.  She didn't know what he was going to do.  Was he going to leave her? Was he going to take the twins from her? She was terrified.  She slowly stood up, the blanket still tight around her and she headed inside.  She saw that there was a table set up with breakfast, but she couldn't eat.  She made her way to the master bedroom.  She didn't know where Zayn was.  Knowing her luck, he probably left for home already, leaving her alone.  She honestly wouldn't be surprised.  She grabbed some clothes and changed.  She left the house and went for a run.  She needed to try to clear her head.  As she ran, she fought back her tears.  She knew there was more than a thousand percent chance that she had now lost the best thing that had ever come into her life.  She didn't know how long she ran.  At the moment, she honestly didn't care.  

Zayn showered and changed after leaving Kaia alone.  He sat in the library and stared at his phone.  He debated about calling Marian.  He also debated about calling Liam.  He debated a lot of things.  One of them just leaving Kaia in Morocco.  He got up and paced about the palace.  He wondered where she was and even asked some of the staff if they had seen her.  They all told him that they hadn't seen her.  A part of him was worried as he didn't want her to get lost or have anything happen to her as Morocco was a foreign country, no matter how much she loved it.  He walked into the bedroom and saw her phone lying on one of the tables.  He picked it up and put in her pass code.  He felt that he had every right to look through her phone after what she had admitted to him.  

 He went through her camera roll and found nothing but pictures of them together, himself and the twins.  There was nothing of Liam.  He also went through her messages, and again, there was nothing from Liam.   With a heavy sigh, he threw her phone back on the table.  He went to the kitchen and grabbed a beer and went out by the pool.  He glanced up when he heard footsteps and saw that she had gone running.

Kaia nearly stumbled when she saw Zayn sitting by the pool.  She slowed her pace as she headed inside.

"Kaia."

She stopped when she heard him call her name and she slowly turned around and walked over to him.

He looked up at her and glared.  "I meant what I said last night when we get home, you are going to act as if nothing happened until I figure things out, do you hear me? No running to him, no running to Marian.  We act as if we are still happily married to everyone!"

"Yes," she said quietly.

He turned away when he saw her lower her head and he could see the very large bruise that had now formed on her cheek.  "I'm sorry that I hit you," he said.  "I never meant for that to happen."  He pounded the beer in his hand and stood up and moved towards her.

Kaia took a small step backward.

He wasn't surprised at her actions.  He would never forgive himself for hitting her.  It wasn't something that he did, but at the same time, he knew that she was scared.  "Be careful when you go running out here," he said.  "You don't know what kind of wild animals are out there or you could even possibly be kidnapped.  I don't need that on my shoulders," he said and moved past her, all but shoving her out of his way.

Over the next few days, they all but avoided each other.  Barely speaking.  They would eat together but that was about it.  Kaia would go for swims in the pool and at times, she would catch Zayn out of the corner of her eye watching from where he thought he was hidden.  They slept in separate bedrooms as well and every night, she would cry herself to sleep.

On their last night, they both sat outside.  A fire was started in the fire pit for them.  She sat in one of the lounge chairs, a blanket wrapped around her as she stared at the red and yellow flames.
