Katie quickly pulled over into an abandoned parking lot. She turned and put a hand on my shoulder. "Charlotte honey what's the matter?" She seemed quiet now. I seemed to choke on my words. "I shouldn't have done that." I managed to blurt out. She laughed. She was laughing at me. I slowly took my hands away from my face and looked at her. "Charlotte dear, you did nothing that she didn't have coming to her." I looked at her questioningly. "Well yea but I don't want her tormenting me for the rest of my life either." She laughed again. "You're too paranoid honey. She'll probably go home tonight get major drunk somewhere and forget this whole day ever even happened. That's just how she is." I shrugged. I didn't know this girl whatsoever. I had only been here for a day and I only slightly knew Katie. I decided I would talk to myself in french so she couldn't hear me rant. Or at least she couldn't understand.
Ding!
I pulled my phone out of my pocket and wiped a few tears from my face. It was Anthony calling me. Why would he be calling me? It's like 4 am at home. I stared at the screen for a moment then hurriedly hit the green answer button. Within seconds I heard Anthony's usually calm voice basically yell things to someone on the other side of this conversation. "Anthony?" I was getting very nervous. He seemed to hear me. "Char! I know you can't do much because you're in New York and stuff but like-" a yell cut him off. There was a bit of shuffling and loud talking then Kaydance had overthrown his rule over the phone. "Charlotte, Your dads in the hospital." When the words left her mouth I barely heard them. I couldn't even ask why or how. I just hung up the phone. Sure he isn't the greatest dad at times but he's your dad. A million thoughts rushed into my head. I felt Katie start the car. She hummed quietly as if not to stir me. Don't you dare cry again Charlotte.
Ding!
I didn't answer the phone.
