Darren fiddled with his coffee cup, swirling it around and barely drinking any.
"So I have something to talk to you about."
I smile under my coffee cup.
"What is it , Love?"
I reach for his hand across the table.
"I was looking at some stuff last night and um I found a better paying job."
I almost spit out my drink.
"D Oh my Gosh that's great!"
He shakes his head.
"It's not really a job but uh...I just wanted to know your opinion on it."
I nod sipping my latte.
"The Army pays more than Hamilton."
I cough, punching his arm.
"No!"
He shrugs.
"We have to pay bills and stuff, Charlotte. Life isn't an episode of Glee."
I slump into my chair, glaring at him.
"You can find a better theater. There's no need to join the army!"
He sighs.
"But we could finally stop living off Ramen and crackers like college students."
I let go of his hand.
"But I love our Ramen life!"
He plays with the straw in his coffee.
"I'm just putting it out there."
I scoff.
"Well put it back. I don't want it out here."
He laughs weakly.
"You're such a dork."
I sigh.
"At least I'm not an idiot."
I punch his arm again, careful with his shoulder even though that phase is over.
"I just want you to have a good life."
I scoot my chair closer to his.
"With you I will."
