Haiii Addie. This is like the chapter for you so yea whatever.
Three months later.
My dark Vans tapped gently on the New York sidewalk. I knew of a place where nothing could hurt me. Not Grace, not Anthony, and not the horrible smell of death that still filled my apartment. I was going to the theatre. People buzzed around me, talking about weather, chatting about the latest gossip, and some just chattering away on their phones. As I turned a corner the bright yellow lights shone in my eyes. I stepped closer, letting go of a breath I was holding.
I remembered the first time I saw the sign. Mitch Katie and Angel brought me when we first met. My hands began to fidget. People stared at me as they walked past. I smiled to myself and when I had been standing under the bright lights for about ten minutes I spun around on my heels.
A curly and blonde haired girl about my size rammed into me, her coffee spilling on the ground. "Oh man. I'm super sorry about that." She began to laugh with a high pitched voice, her curls bouncing with her head. "Whatever it's cool. Now if it was Starbucks that'd be a whole 'nother story."
Her Australian accent was obvious. The way she spoke reminded me of a foreign exchange student that transferred to our school from Australia. I cleared my throat in hopes she wouldn't notice the quiet sob. Her hand flew out from her black jacket.
"I'm Addie. Addie Blue."
I shook her hand and introduced myself.
"I'm Charlotte Spencer. Sorry again for your coffee."
She laughed again. "Whatever. It's cool. Like I said about the Starbucks though."
Her voice was cool and passionate. "How about I replace it for you?" She shrugged. "Got nowhere to be." She adjusted a brown backpack higher on her shoulder. "There's a coffee shop around the NYU campus. It's not too far." I said motioning toward the corner.
She took one look at the sign and said, "I love this place. It helps me focus." I raised an eyebrow and began walking.
"You a Hamilton fan?"
She giggled and nodded. "Isn't everyone?"
I shrugged. "True. True."
We chatted along the way to the shop. We talked about Hamilton, about college, about music in general. Addie was applying for NYADA.
"Wow. That's great. I wanted to go there but it was too much money." She sighed. "I see."
When the coffee was gone and the sun went down it was time to go home. We exchanged numbers and went on our ways.
I decided to ask the girls if they would come over tonight. I texted them.
Message to: Group Message- "Hey girls! Want to come to my place and watch a movie?"
I didn't really want everyone at my place because of the whole feel of death but I didn't want to ask to go to their house.
I failed to realize Katie was still in the group chat.
Two hours later Mitch and Angel arrived at my door. They brought movies and popcorn.
"Hey Char. How's it going?" Mitch asked, walking through the door.
I shrugged. "I'm ok."
Angel smiled as they both flopped on the couch.
"Ignore the smell of pure death." I said bitterly. Mitch looked at me with angry eyes, telling me I shouldn't have said that.
I joined them on the couch, turning on the tv.
GLEE WAS STILL PLAYING.
I quickly shut Netflix off and the bright screen turned black.
"Ok I'll do it."
Mitch took the remote from my shaking hands and switched on the VCR.
"I brought your favorite."
I stared straight ahead. She waved the video in front of my face. I blinked. "What?"
Mitch put the tape into the player. "I brought Rent. The movie version. I know it's your favorite." She smiled. I nodded and stood to make a cup of coffee when my phone beeped.
Message from: Unknown Number- Hey there mate! It's me Addie Blue. I think this is the correct number. Oh well.
That was fast. I clicked the message and replied while my coffee was brewing.
I ended up texting Addie the whole time I was supposed to be watching the movie. Mitch and Angel fell asleep within twenty minutes so I didn't have to hide it for long.
Message from: Australian Addie- So I heard ya got big dreams to be on the big B Way.
I rolled my eyes but giggled under my breath at her lack of knowledge for New York culture.
Message to: Australian Addie- First of all call it Broadway. Because that's the name. Second. WHO DOESNT WANT TO BE ON BROADWAY?!?
I waited a few moments. Mitch began to stir in the red chair she always sits in. My eyes glanced over at Katie's zebra print recliner she somehow fit in our little apartment. There was a coffee stain on it I hadn't noticed before. My phone buzzed, turning my attention away from the chair.
Message from: Australian Addie- Ok touché. I want to be on Broadway too. I heard news from another one of my mates yesterday about a few openings. Isn't that amazing? 🍾🎤🎭🎉✌🏻
My heart skipped a beat.
Message to: Australian Addie- Like the real Broadway? REALLY? You better not be pulling on my leg. If you are I'm going to kick your little butt back to Australia.
A small noise came from the heap of flesh that was Angel, who was lying on the floor.
I might have waited about twenty seconds for that message to come but it felt like days.
Message from: Australian Addie- Not kidding.
I squeal left my mouth as I put my phone on the nightstand.
My feet moved faster than my brain. Before I knew it I was out in the hall on the way to Addie's campus. Why was this a good idea? For stardom my friends.
For stardom.
