Addie paces the floor when I burst into her room.
"I'm here!" I announce.
I feel her tense shoulders.
"I'm nervous." She says hesitantly.
"You? Nervous? Never."
He laughs weakly as we walk up to the large list on the front of the Richard Rodgers Theater.
Alexander Hamilton: Darren Bara.
"Wow! Darren got a huge part Addie!"
I continue looking.
Eliza Schuyler/Hamilton: Charlotte Spencer.
I nearly jump.
"Ohmygoshohmygoshcharlotte!!" Addie's words are unintelligible.
Peggy Schuyler/ Maria Reynolds: Addison Blue
I squeal and hug Addie.
She whispers something to someone named Mason.
Renee, Jasmine, Daveed, Anthony, and Darren come out of the theater chatting away.
"WELCOME TO THE CAST GIRLS!" Rene cries and hugs us.
Jasmine is teary eyed as she speaks to Addie.
"I'll try to live up to your standards." Addie giggles.
"They are your characters now. Make them your own. Protect them." They hug.
Daveed grabs Addie's face in his hands and whispers something to her. I groan.
"Charlotte! Looks like we're working together again!" Darren cries.
"Yeah...."
Daveed cries something about ice cream but I didn't quite hear it.
He may be a good actor but Addie's mine.
Anthony takes Jazzys hand and they begin walking.
I catch up to Addie and take her hand, showing Daveed how this is gonna work and slightly mocking Anthony and Jasmine.
"Hey!" He protests and wraps an arm around Addie. I'm shoved behind them next to Rene.
"There you go Princess." I call after them.
Rene giggles and Darren sighs._________
Our first show is in three weeks, I'm literally swimming in homework, I have no idea what Addie's doing, and I haven't heard from anyone in days. I'm sick of living like this.
I flop backwards onto my bed. The poster I put there the first day still hanging on my ceiling.
"I know staying under the covers may seem like the best option. I feel you. But cmon. Let's go see what's out there. -Lin-Manuel Miranda."
It's hard to believe I actually met that man after years of fantasizing about it.
Addie has the hots for Daveed, but like who doesn't? She talks to him on the phone all the time and hangs out with him when we go places with the cast.
"Oh really you speak French? " Addie asks him wide eyed.
"I play a french character of course I do!" He laughs loudly.
I have spoken french my whole life.
I rolled my eyes and got up from the table.
"Well, not that this isn't fun but I have to get going."
Addie groaned trying to hide the fact that she was holding Daveeds hand under the table.
"Bye Addie! Bye Daveed."
They waved as I exited Wings.
I walked out into the slightly warmer air.
Ding!
Usnavi: Hey!
Charlotte: hi.
Usnavi: Rough day?
Charlotte: Sorta.
Usnavi: Want to catch a movie?
Charlotte: That'd be great.
Usnavi: Awesome I'll pick you up at 8 😘
I put my phone back into my jacket pocket.
Does he think this is a date?
Oh God... Here we go.
_________
A knock came at my door around 7:45. I struggled to pull on my Vans.
"Coming!" I called tying the laces on my shoes.
I stumbled to the door and opened it.
Darren wore a t shirt and Converse.
Good. I don't think he thinks it's a date.
"Ready to go?" He held out his arm.
I laugh softly and take his arm.
_______
"So since you're my wife now I'd like to know more about you."
I chuckled weakly.
"Well um. I speak French, I'm from Tennessee, I love theatre and that's pretty much it."
He raised an eyebrow.
"I highly doubt that's it."
I shrugged and sipped my coffee.
"Come on. There has to be more."
There's so much more.
But that will remain a secret.
Forever.
