After we had been sitting at Henry's diner for about fifteen minutes Mitch was calling two different people and tapping violently at her phone. Angel was reading and Katie was sipping coffee slowly taking in every sip. "Well it seems David and Chris are not coming. Again!" Mitch crossed her arms in frustration. "Well darn." Katie sipped her coffee again. She is thinking about something. Ask her. Don't ask her. Ask her. Don't. I shook my head clearing my thoughts. "Charlotte will meet them eventually." Angel piped up. "I can't BELIVE we've wasted an entire semester!" Mitch threw up her arms. It was driving me absolutely crazy that she wouldn't join the drama team. She was always so animated. I stared at her and I guess I was deep in thought because she was waving her hand in front of my face and calling my name. "Are you ok there Charlotte?" I felt my face burn. You did it again. "Y-yea. Hey! This isn't about me! This is about Katie!" I cried turning the attention from me to Katie. You could still see the blush in her dark skin. She's going to say she's fine. "I'm fine guys! Quit your whinin'!"
Told you. We laughed and finished eating. We walked out of Henry's at about 7. The movie started in an hour so we decided to walk to the mall before going into the theater. Katie was doing her thing and dancing around to the music playing throughout the mall. She accidentally bumped into a tall, skinny blonde. The girl spilt her coffee all over herself. Katie swerved around. "O MY GRACIOUS I am SO sorry honey!" She picked up the girls cup. She handed it back to the steaming (in more ways that one) girl. The girl huffed and puffed in Katie's face. Naturally she tried to get towels to help her clean up but when she started to dash towards the bathroom. Just then a manicured hand grasped her wrist. I took a protective step forward. Mitch held her arm in front of me. Angel grabbed my other arm out of fear of what I might do. "Don't even try that southern charm with me Katherine." I heard a small gasp escape Katie's lips as she realized who was holding her. I saw her usually relaxed muscles tighten. The girl laughed. That's the girl I punched in the parking lot. Oh shhhhh..... The girl released Katie and stared into her face. They stood there for a few seconds. Staring. Judging. Then the blonde pulled her perfectly kept hand back and punched Katie in the nose. The same thing that happened in the library and in the school parking lot happened again. I snapped. I tore from Mitch and Angels grasp. I helped Katie to her feet. She held a hand to her nose. I spun her around and into Mitch's arms. Then I spun around to face Grace the evil girl from the parking lot. I felt myself letting out about ten breaths a second. She chuckled at me. "What ya gonna do? It's not like you can possibly do anything to anyone. Look at ya! You're so small! I can't believe you've lasted this long anywhere much less New York City itself!" She laughed along with her bratty girlfriends. "Don't listen to her Charlotte! Let's go! Forget the movie we will go another time!" I growled like an animal. She laughed again. Then she looked me right in the face and said the words that would haunt me forever, "Bite me French Freak." Memories flashed before my face and I almost fell over. Mitch grabbed my arm and tried to pull me away. "Get off me Mitch." I almost whispered. The girl laughed some more. "We all know you only came here to escape your dad." I felt my blood run cold. How did she know about my dad? "Charlotte seriously lets go." Katie called her voice muffled slightly because of her nose. I inhaled deeply. Don't do anything. Walk away. "Katie I think your toy is broken!" I felt tears swell in my eyes. "Want to know how I know this?" She chuckled and held out a tiny leather book in front of my face. My notebook. How did she get that? The anger and heat was unbearable. She started ripping pages out of my notebook. I couldn't help the pained gasp that escaped my lips. "Go cry to mommy about it...oh wait you can't because she's-" The last word was entirely lost to me. I darted off out of the nearest mall door. I heard slight screaming behind me but I didn't stop. Hot and salty tears ran down my face in what seemed like buckets. I ran into the parking lot. A large alarm in my head screamed, "SPEED BUMP!" But it was too late. I tripped over the large piece of concrete. The hard gravel scratched at my knees. Even with my jeans they bled. I rolled onto my knees and burst into tears. I flinched and fought violently at the strong hands that were wrapped around me. I saw a white light and thought I was dead. Let me die.
