Kurt locks his arm in mine like a prince as we walk in the busy streets.
"I don't think my husband would like you holding my arm." I joked with him.
He scoffed.
"Oh please girl. You know I'm gay."
I sighed.
"I know."
He gave me a look.
"Do you want me to stop?"
I shook my head, quickly.
"No! It's nice to have some human contact since D is gone for a bit."
He nods and sips his coffee, happily.
We trudge past the Sound of Music theater.
He smirks at me.
I shake my head.
"No, Kurt. I'm in Hamilton. That's that."
I smile at his smug look.
"For now..."
I roll my eyes at his comment.
"You have so much more potential, Charlotte."
I turn my head to glance at him.
"What do you mean?" I ask, sipping my coffee curiously.
He shrugs for a brief second.
"I don't know...just...I feel like you have too much talent for that show."
I raise an eyebrow in his direction.
"I mean...You're just so much better than that. You could have any part you want, yet you choose Elizabeth Schuyler in a rap musical."
He scoffs and throws his hands up in frustration.
"I mean you don't even rap!"
I laugh at his dramatic gesture.
My eyes wander to another theater.
"I have always wanted to play Elphaba."
His face lights up.
"There you go! I can see it now."
He glances high into the sky.
"It's perfect. You should audition."
I fidget with my fingers as they are still locked around his arm.
"But I'll miss everyone. Richard Rodgers is so far away from Gershwin."
He makes a gesture that appears as if he's clawing at something.
"You can see them anytime. I mean come on, Charlotte! You have parties like every weekend."
I stare at my shoes, then up at the theaters.
I see the Gershwin in the distance.
"Maybe someday."
It's true.
Wicked is half of the reason I came to New York.
I wanted to be in Wicked.
Wicked.
Wicked.
Wicked.
That's all I ever thought about.
I sigh.
"Fine. Find me an audition."
