I stare at the ceiling of my apartment.
The apartment that made me, me.
I can't help but feel empty and like life is coming to an end.
But it isn't.
A thousand memories flood my brain.
"I groaned again. Maybe someday I won't have a group of friends that will text me at 3:30 in the morning. I laughed out loud. 'That'll be the day!'"
A thousand moments with new and old friends.
"'Hey French Fry...' A voice called over my shoulder. I ignore the short haired girl and scan the crowd for my dad. Of course he won't be here stupid. Why bother looking? 'Charlotte Lillian Spencer! Answer me this instant! I ignore kaydnace. She keeps tapping my shoulder. 'Leave me alone, Kaydance. Im basking.' I say taking in every sound of graduation."
About twenty minutes later a small brunette with large dorky glasses walked into the diner. She spotted us and walked over. She squeezed into our booth next to Katie. She pushed her glasses up awkwardly. "Angel this is Charlotte. She is a new member of our group. And guess what Angel!" The girl raised an eyebrow at her. "Charlotte can speak french! Like bonjour and stuff!" Angel turned to me with a large smile on her face. Behind those large glasses were eyes set ablaze by a fire in her soul.
I smiled to myself and when I had been standing under the bright lights for about ten minutes I spun around on my heels. A curly and blonde haired girl about my size rammed into me, her coffee spilling on the ground. "Oh man. I'm super sorry about that." She began to laugh with a high pitched voice, her curls bouncing with her head. "Whatever it's cool. Now if it was Starbucks that'd be a whole 'nother story." Her Australian accent was obvious. The way she spoke reminded me of a foreign exchange student that transferred to our school from Australia. I cleared my throat in hopes she wouldn't notice the quiet sob. Her hand flew out from her black jacket.
"I'm Addie. Addie Blue."
"Oh my goodness! How silly of me! I didn't even introduce myself. I my name is Katherine but my friends call me Katie." She chuckled. Her laugh sounded like that of a mans but it made me happy. Even though I was thousands of miles from my friends I truly felt safe here.
"EVERYONE GIVE IT UP FOR AMERICAS FAVORITE FIGHTIN FRENCHMAAAN!" I had one earbud in and one out singing as I cleaned up my dorm. I didn't notice the door was open until I heard a voice from the doorway shout, "LAFAYETTE!" I almost dropped the box of old papers I was about to take outside. I spun around and was staring at a red-haired freckle-faced girl in my doorway leaning against it. She laughed heartily. "Hamilton...I like it."
A thousand inside jokes.
I smiled, remembering what happened at the theater earlier. I couldn't stand it anymore. My head jerked back and loud laughter echoed through the restaurant. "What the hell is wrong with you?!" Mitch cried. "She's lost it." Addie mumbled. "Said....in front of Daveed...your face....Burr!" I chuckled, barely breathing and speaking. "Oh God please don't bring that up Charlotte. I'm begging you." She put her head in her hands. After I'd finished my laughing fit I agreed to keep it between us. Well, us and the entire Hamilton cast.
A thousand songs sung together.
I stood with the girls in the corridor. We shushed each other as the music started to play. This however, is the marriage of two theatre majors. Therefore, it is quite different.
As the lively music began, Oak went out first. He burst through the doors and danced down the aisle. Oak started the song, "It's a beautiful night. We're looking for something dumb to do. Hey baby, I think I wanna marry you..."
Addie came in after him, taking his hand. "Is it the look in your eyes? Or is it the dancing juice? Who cares baby? I think I wanna marry you." They climbed up the stairs parting to stand in their positions as the next couple came in. Rene came in next, pulling Anthony by his tie. I heard laughter from everyone.
"Well I know this little chapel on the boulevard. We can go oh. No one will know oh."
Anthony tried to free his tie playfully.
"We'll come on girl..."
He freed his tie and took Rene's arm.
Angel and Leslie, and Mitch and Lin went next. They all chimed in after them.
"Don't say no, no, no, no, no. Just say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And we'll go go go go go."
Lin took the lead.
"If you're ready, like I'm ready."
"Cause it's a beautiful night. We're looking for something dumb to do. Hey baby, I think I wanna marry you."
Mitch's face when Lin took her arm was enough to make me crack up.
I went through the doors on my cue. It was kinda funny but I wore my dress for the opening song. It fit though and it was free.
