The theater was dark.

"Addie why are we here? We still have like two hours until we have to rehearse."

She grabbed my hand and led me to a seat in the audience.

Hello beautiful theater.

You're mine again.

My theater.

"Addie what's goi-"

She put up her hands.

"Shhhhhh..."

She stared up at the stage, her eyes aglow.

"Wait for it...."

I mimicked her movements and faced the stage.

A single light switched on.

I jumped a little.

Darren?

He stood alone on the stage, the light shining on him. He wore a tux and held a rose.
Music began playing behind me. I recognized the song, but from where?

"Five drinks in on Friday night. We only came to dry your eyes and get you out of your room."

There it is.

My face burned. Addie giggled and tapped her foot along with his singing.

"Now this bars closed its doors and I find my hands holding yours. Do you wanna go home so soon?"

Anthony, Chris, Lin, Rene, and Daveed walked behind him and swayed. They also held roses.

This isn't happening.

I'm dreaming.

I'm asleep.

If I'm asleep I don't want to wake up any time soon.

"Or maybe we should take a ride through the night and sing along to every song that's on the radio. In the back of a taxi cab in Brooklyn."

He started down the stairs of the stage.

His words swirled around me like an ocean breeze.

"He sun could rise burning all the street lamps out at 3 AM. So Mr. DJ play it again. Until the night turns into morning, you'll be in my arms. And we'll just keep driving along the boulevard. And if I kiss you darling. Please don't be alarmed. It's just the start of everything if you want..."

The world seemed to melt away until there was nothing in the universe besides Darren and me.

"A new love."

Love?

"In New York."

Yes sir. New York.

The music continued to play as he stood in front of me, standing on an auditorium chair.

"Yesterday gave me a call stressing out about it all..."

Yep that sounds about right.

"Said, the world is movin too fast."

Yes. That's correct.

"You don't know where to begin 'cause you've spent a lifetime fitting in, only to wind up on the other side."

I like this song.

His singing filled the room. Nothing else, nobody else made a single sound.

"By yourself and everyday, screamin out to all the people that you used to know..."

I smiled. My face was burning and my mind was fried. There were no thoughts in my head except us.

"From a window that looks upon the Manhattan skyline, now it's just the way your life goes and you live it in every song you know."

He came and sat in the open seat next to me, wrapping an arm around my shoulder.

"So DJ play it again!"

He stands back up and moves onto the stage. I think about pouting for him to come back but there's no reason to. I'm lost in everything. I'm lost in his words, in his voice, in his eyes. Everything stops.

"Until the night turns into morning, till be in my arms, and we'll just keep driving along the boulevard. And if I kiss you darlin please don't be alarmed. It's just the start of everything if you want..."

"A new life."

They all started to sing together. Addie took my hand, but let go slowly as she walked up onto the stage.

"In New York."

"And every song that plays is just like the day you had, and it's ok to cry. But I'm saying that it's a waste of water you know I'm here for you, in the back of a taxi cab tonight."

Everyone joined back in again.

"In New York."

"It's just reached the morning. And you're still in my arms. And we've stopped driving, down the boulevard. And I just kissed you darlin I hope you weren't alarmed. It's just the start of everything if you want..."

"A new love."

"In New York."

I never wanted it to stop, but like every other good thing, it came to an end. Darren rushed back to my seat. He didn't even say a word. I kissed him, and not on the cheek. He raised a fist in the air, while everyone cheered.
