"La la la la la."
Darren played the ascending note.
"La la la la la la."
He played an even higher note.
"La la la la la la la. "
Suddenly, Lin burst through the door, waving an envelope around.
"Tony noms are in guys!"
He screams and runs around the theater, shoving the papers in everyone's face.
He does a weird jump onto the stage, tripping and falling into the piano.
When everyone finally gathers near us on the stage he takes a deep breath and tears open the envelope.
"Who's nominated Lin?" Darren leans over his shoulder.
Lin pushes him away and reads them out loud.
He mumbles nominees from Wicked, Les Mis, and The Waitress.
"Hamilton!" His eyes scan the paper for a second.
"Darren Bara!"
I squeal.
"Darren oh my God!"
I jump on this back and ruffle his hair. He laughs like a crazy person, spinning me around.
Lin reads more people.
"Leslie, me of course," I roll my eyes, still sitting on Darren's back, hugging his neck.
"Rene, Anthony,"
His face pales for a moment.
"Uh...Daveed, and Addie."
My smile fades slightly.
I didn't get nominated.
I push my face into D's hair.
"You'll get one. I promise."
I nod.
"We need to tell Addie. She has to come back for the ceremony."
"You deserve one, Love."
I shrug.
"There's always next year."
I laugh at the thought of Addie coming back for a show she left.
Lin's words still linger in our ears.
Daveed was nominated.
We ignore it and get ready for the show.
Darren keeps me on his back.
"I'm so proud of you D."
He smiles.
I'm glad he is still here to smile.
