Chapter Sixteen
Justin's P.O.V.
Mom pulled Lexie into a hug as soon as we walked into the living room. Lexie nervously returned the hug as the rest of the family greeted her. She seemed tense which I didn't blame her, I'd probably be doing the same thing meeting her family.
She quickly made her way back over to me linking our arms together. I kissed her head reassuringly watching as everyone including her give me a strange look. Hers was hard to read, like she was surprised but it made her feel better, she kissed me this morning. Glancing up grandpa was giving me an expression like I was insane.
What, had they never seen a guy kiss his friend before? Eventually Lexie's cheeks blushed into a bright pink, it was seriously so easy. Although this morning when she was sitting on me it seemed normal to her. If Garrett hasn't interrupted us I probably would have kissed her right then and there.
My thoughts were interrupted seeing Nathan slowly creeping into the living room. He stood by himself holding one of his stuffed spider mans. Ever since his mom died he was really shy about meeting new people. Lexie spotted him and carefully made her way over to him.
I followed behind her as grandpa came behind Nathan. She crouched down so she was eye level with him. "Hi there little guy, what's your name?" she asked him with the sweetest tone of voices.
He looked up at me as I nodded, she wasn't going to do anything to him. "Nathan" he seemed to relax watching her smile.
She gasped completely sitting on the floor. "I love your name, it's very handsome. I'm Lexie"
"Thanks Lexie" his face broke out into a smile as she sweetly returned it. This girl was perfect!
She opened her mouth to say something but quickly shut it when Nathan actually hugged her. Not hesitating she pulled him into her, I don't know if it was motherly instincts or what but she seemed to know exactly what she was doing.
"You know, you kind of look like his mother" grandpa casually mentioned as Lexie's lips formed into a pout. It was really sad and now that he said that she did. Nathan's mom was a little older and she had similar features to Lexie.
She picked him up along with herself. Nathan clung to her, his little arms wrapped around her neck. I saw mom smile at me briefly as she glanced at Lexie holding Nathan, she was thinking the same thing I was. Even Troy seemed completely taken watching her with this little boy.
"I'm going to start dinner, if you need anything I'll be in the kitchen" mom made her way past us.
"Do you need any help Mrs. Romaine?" Lexie asked turning around to focus on mom.
"No love. I'm fine you are our guest, go sit and visit and I told you to call me Rose"
"Alright, if you need anything just call me" she smiled as Nathan rested his head on her shoulder, looks like he won't be letting go of her anytime soon.
I pulled her down on the couch next to me watching Nathan adjust himself on her lap. He began telling her of the day at the museum, she intently listened to him even if it was boring her. Troy and I started talking of whatever, he was trying to show off in front of Lexie but she was too focused on Nathan to pay any attention.
Seeing her with Nathan gave me a glimpse of what I wanted in the future. My future with her, I was going to make it happen. I could see it now, her with a wedding band on her finger claiming she was mine being completely absorbed with our child. It was perfect.
After an hour I smelt dinner coming along. I knew it would be ready soon. "Nathan, why don't you go get cleaned up for dinner?" I smiled as he nodded climbing off Lexie's lap. "Thanks for spending time with him"
