Chapter Fifty One

Lexie's P.O.V.

Bradley dropped me off at the hospital as I walked through the sliding glass doors. Still no progress with Marilyn. Garrett won last night and he was so ecstatic he kissed both Kara and I. Let's just say that didn't go over so well, I had to restrain Bradley from killing my best friend because he kissed his girlfriend. At least I knew Bradley would do anything to protect Kara.

Even though we went crazy celebrating it just didn't feel right, as much fun it was we couldn't get past this depressing cloud looming over us. It was amazing how much life could change in a matter of seconds. A couple weeks ago everything was fine, Marilyn was okay, Justin was with me, and I was happy.

Now we had no idea what was going on with Marilyn, I hadn't seen or talked to Justin in about a week, and I was trying my hardest to stay strong for Garrett. Walking through the halls I gave a smile to Carol, the nurse that took care of me when I was in the hospital. I had no idea what kind of mood Garrett would be in today, he just won the state playwright competition.

I sighed hoping Marilyn woke up soon, I wanted to see her before I left for Oklahoma. Knowing Garrett he would push me into just going but I couldn't do that and hopefully Justin would understand, he was right though we couldn't wait too long to do this. Even at this point I had no clue what we were doing.

Continuing to walk I bumped into someone, knowing me I was so focused in my thoughts. "Oh my goodness I'm so-"

"Chill love bug, it's only me" Kara smiled as I let out a sigh of relief, at least it wasn't a complete stranger.

"Are you okay?" I chuckled as she nodded, "no I mean about last night"

"Oh yeah, after I got Bradley settled down it was alright. Kind of felt weird kissing Garrett again but honestly nothing is going to happen between us, as friends or a couple. I love Bradley so it meant nothing to me" she said wrapping her arm around my shoulders as we walked. "What about you? He kissed you too"

"It's whatever, he was just excited"

Kara nodded as we headed into the room seeing Garrett back to his depressed self. I sighed seeing winning the competition did nothing, absolutely nothing. Garrett lifted up his head when we walked in. "Lexie, Kara before anything else is said I want to apologize for what I did last night. It was completely disrespectful and inappropriate, I'm sorry"

"Garrett take a chill pill, it's not a big deal" Kara chuckled plopping down in one of the chairs. He glanced at me as I nodded, he was just excited and his first reaction was to kiss his two best friends no biggie.

I took a seat next to him as he smiled, no reason to be awkward now. "Any news from the doctors?" I asked watching him stay focused on Marilyn.

"No" he sighed resting his head on my shoulder as I ran my fingers through his hair. His parents were only here after work so since all of us didn't work we stayed with Garrett. Right now he needed all the support he could get, Marilyn had to wake up soon. "Lex, do me a favor?" he asked as I nodded, "Will you sing to her?"

"Do you think she can hear me?"

"I have no idea but she loves when you sing"

Even though I hated singing in front of other people it was hard to say no with the way Garrett was looking at me. It might have been more for him than anyone but I was willing to try anything to make her get better. I nodded going to sit on the side of her bed watching her slowly breathe.

This was such a hard thing to get out of my head, one of my best friends that was unconscious. Tubes going up her nose and needles stuck in her skin. I took a deep breath to keep my tears in, I couldn't let anyone see me cry. So I rubbed my hand across her forehead as I began singing one of her favorite songs, here goes nothing.
