Chapter Forty Nine
Lexie's P.O.V.
Kara and I walked down to the cafeteria of the hospital going to grab some hot chocolate, it was cold today. I never understood California weather, one day it was extremely hot then the next day it was cold enough to wear jackets. She linked our arms together as we went through the halls, in the elevator and past the lobby.
Garrett was fast asleep in Marilyn's room with his mother right by his side, he was so lucky to have parents like that. They were supporting each other through this, not one person dealing with something and everyone ignored them. Garrett and Kara were my family, they pulled me through anything including my relationship.
I sighed really wishing Justin was here with me but only three weeks and we would be together again. Who knew one person could mean the world to you? We headed down seeing the hundreds of sorrowful faces filling the hospital. This was the worst place to be. People here for injuries, sicknesses, or life threatening diseases.
The hospital could be used for good though. Babies being born, people being cured, and families being reunited. I still wanted to become a medical scientist, even though I would be diagnosing people with the very things I hated we could catch it in time to save them. Sadly even though I was working for my parents they never actually paid me.
Kara and I grabbed the hot chocolate making our way back up to the room, she was honestly doing her best to keep me smiling. A lot was on my mind right now, moving away with Justin, the play coming up, Marilyn still not waking up. Just too much was going on at the moment, hopefully I could take it.
Once we reached the room we handed Garrett's mom the hot chocolate seeing him still passed out in the chair. We took our seats keeping quiet since either of us knew what to say. There would be no point in saying things would be alright if we didn't even know or believing Marilyn was strong enough to push through this.
I sighed again feeling my phone go off in my pocket, pulling it out I saw Jasmine's name across the screen. She had been texting me non stop since they got to Oklahoma. About the weather, the landscape, the house, and how crazy Justin was acting trying to make things perfect for when I got there.
Apparently it was about twenty degrees there at the moment and it was snowing. That was insane, snowing in the beginning of September. It was hardly cold here. Unlocking my phone I saw Jasmine sent me a video, it was honestly fun seeing what things would be like when that place became my home.
Pressing play the video started showing Justin sitting at the computer in a huge sweater, pants, and socks. I chuckled seeing all of them were freezing out there. He had Taz on his lap while he browsed the Internet or whatever he did on there. Jasmine's laugh was heard through the speakers as Taz bumped his head against Justin's chin.
I laughed seeing it didn't take long for Taz to warm up to him. Justin's face scrunched up when Taz's wet nose met his skin. "Taz, what are you doing?" Justin asked looking down at him. Taz continued bumping his nose against his chin just like he always did with me. "Do you mind I'm trying-" he scrunched up his face again letting Taz rub up against him.
Justin sighed deciding to just let my cat do what it wanted, "Taz, I think you are a cool guy just go love on mom" I chuckled knowing Justin wasn't much of an animal person but he was doing this for me. "Would you-" again Taz reached up to his chin. Well if Taz could tell Justin was a good guy then I had to take his word on it.
"Lexie?" I heard Garrett mumble as I paused the video. Lifting my gaze to meet his I saw the wear and tear on his face. He looked drained, dark circles under his eyes, exhaustion written all over his expression. "When is he coming back?"
