*(re-edited)

And here is the chapter where I will be spammed with "frick you"s.

Yay!

Let the insanity commence!!!

Okay. You have a fan character who has a mental illness.

And I'm totally fine with that.

But can I just ask–

Did you do research?
Did you look up side effects? Meds?
Did you read articles from the views of people who actually has said illness?
Or do you have this illness yourself and therefore can really make the illness work in your character?

If not, click off and immediately fix your character.
K? K.

A mental illness may not define a person or who they are, but it will definitely leave it's mark.

A person struggling with depression may find it hard to smile for real.

A person with mind breaking anxiety might have a panic attack in the middle of a math test.

A person dealing with hardcore insomnia will definitely walk around with a stupid smile due to two weeks of nonstop wakeness.

And the list goes on from there.

And when a person HAS an illness, there's probably a reason behind it. It doesn't always have to be a dark past– and I will certainly have a rant on this topic later.
It can be genetics.
It can be from an accident.

Before I go on, a note to everyone who hates "dark pasts":

Hey there.
Guess what?
We've all been scarred. We've all been through tragedies. A person's "dark past" could be seeing their dog dying or having seen a terrifying murder-psycho movie when they were a kid. Everyone's messed up. Some are just more obvious than others. There isn't a person out there who hasn't had a "bad" past, or even a bad part of their past.

DEAL WITH IT.

Excuse the rage above.

If you DO have a character with a mental problem and you HAVE done your research, then congratulations, I'm not ranting on you.

But for those who are the opposite–

Please heed my words!!!!! Don't look at this, toss it aside, and go on with your life thinking," Wow, that's two minutes I'll never get back."

Because it's little things like this that do matter in a story, and I'm tired of that being overlooked.

And that's a wrap!
