❀ Selena ❀
I texted Mom.
To Mom: Can I meet you somewhere?
From Mom: Sure honey. I'm right outside the pent house.
I climbed out of my bed and looked outside the window. "Sunny out there." I browsed through the fedoras that Taylor and Sammy had, I never planned on packing one before summer started. Time went by slower when I started to go downstairs to find my beautiful mother on earth.
"Momma." I spoke out for her to give me a smile.
"Selena." She gave me a lightly kiss on my head. "Wanna have a beach day?"
I nodded, but I saw Dylan from the corner of my eye. He was talking to Tyler, but they looked like they were about to go somewhere. Tyler's eyes met mine to show that I could interrupt their conversation. I sneaked up behind Dylan and closed his eyes with my fingers. "Guess who?"
"Hmm... Is it someone I know?"
"Yes." Tyler and I answered.
"Is it someone I see everyday?"
"Yes."
"Is it my girlfriend?"
It was weird how he called me his girlfriend. "Yes." He took my fingers off his eyes and turned around to quickly steal a kiss. "Hi."
"Hi."
"I'm still here guys." Tyler mentioned from behind Dylan.
I laughed. "Hey Tyler. I have to go with Mom somewhere, but I'll catch up with you later?"
Dylan nodded. "Yes please."
I walked towards the beach to find Mom fumbling with the corners of the red blanket. We found the perfect spot slightly away from the water and a slightly near the boardwalk, just a perfect spot. We took a seat before we stared at the ocean just passing by with kids playing around.
"Mom, what's love?"
"Only you can describe love." Mom turned her head towards me. "We all have different definitions of love, but you can only define what love is like to you."
I frowned. "I don't know what love is."
"What's the feelings you have when you're with Dylan?"
I gave out a really big sigh. "I just feel happiness. Mom, you know I have a bad history with love."
"All guys aren't the same Selena."
"What about Dad? Why did he even do that?" I asked without even minding Mom's feelings about the divorce when I was still a little baby.
She shook her head and kept quiet.
"That doesn't count Mom. I don't want to be broken hearted again."
"You think you'll actually be broken hearted again by the way Dylan sees you?"
"This is all puppy love. It isn't always about fairytales." I quietly hoped it was for Dylan and I. I really wanted my life to be a fairytale or even a chick flick movie where Dylan is the best friend that I'd go out with. Everytime I fall in love it gets all messy.
I thought about what Mom talked about broken heart and how Dylan sees me. What does she mean about that?
"Selena Marie, you've loved and lost... But there is something really just amazing about starting new. It's a fresh start and you get to live freely. Right now you have a fresh start, all new." Mom explained making me want to start.
"What if it happens to me again? What if after senior year, we both have to suffer moving away from each other? What if--"
Mom laughed rather loud than usual. "Hey... Stop freaking out about this. Distance can strengthen your relationship. Whatever happened before just know that what's passed is past."
"How am I supposed to do that when I'm so afraid of love? Am I supposed to tell Dylan that he should never tell me that he loves me?" I asked Mom. I raised my voice just a tiny bit since I was getting really frustrated.
Moms phone rang and quickly mumbled a few words before hanging up. She looked towards me, "Selena... I'll leave you be here. I'll tell Dylan to come over for a bit until you need your time to think about stuff. You probably would need time alone." Mom leaned towards my face to give me a kiss on my cheek before leaving me at peace.
"What am I supposed to do?" I asked out loud at the ocean waves. I needed answers. I needed answers to all the questions that ran through my mind.
I looked through my contacts and strolled to a few that weren't necessary, but I finally stopped at the one I was looking for; Dad. I was scared for a moment not knowing if he would like that I called or not. Ring after ring there was still no answer.
"Hello, Ricardo speaking." Dad introduced himself like he was working in his office.
I breathed in deeply. "Hey, Dad. I was hoping if we could meet somewhere."
"Okay. Is everything alright? You kind of seem confused and lost." His voice changed and the corner of my mouth turned upright when I realized that he kind of noticed that I was feeling a bit uneasy.
"Yeah-- There's just a lot of things happening and I needed to talk to someone about it." I answered him clearly.
He cleared his throat. "That's fine. Just text me the address and I'll be there in a second."
"Thanks, Dad. See you later."
"See you, sweetie." I quickly hung up the phone and took a deep breath. I haven't seen my dad in years since I've been busy with studying and readying for college.
I let out a big sigh when I realize asking him to come here was easy. I just hope talking to him would be easy too. I immediately texted Dad the address to the place where we were currently at. I couldn't exactly call it a pent house or boardwalk, I just called it the beach.
I stood up straight when my dad texted me that he was already parked and close to the entrance. I got my things and immediately went towards the parking lot or might as well say the lobby.
Once I was at the lobby, everyone I knew were there just roaming around. I saw Dylan and Taylor's head stretch out to look at me while I gave them a small smile. Mom and Brian were looking at me as well, this was really weird.
Then I finally saw my Dad just standing there checking his phone, probably to look if I replied to his text messages. "Dad." I called out before I gave him a bear hug.
"Selena." He gave a sigh and hugged me back. He ruined our moment when he started to laugh.
I scoffed. "Dad, why'd you have to ruin such an intimate moment?"
"I am your dad you know. By the way, it's a bit awkward having people stare at you." He mentioned while I turned around to see everyone I knew just staring at us. "Let's go." Dad lastly mentioned before holding out his arm to let me hold it.
This was my only chance to finally get my questions answered.
