My eyes slumped down when I sat quietly in the main lobby watching the cartoons that was playing for the children. I glanced and smiled at the little minions in front of me, they're so cute. I stopped smiling since it was creepy having to smile at children, people would've thought I was a pedophile or something.
I just brushed it off and stood up to walk to towards the boardwalk. "What should I do now?" I asked myself seeing that I was in no ones company.
Turning myself around, I saw Selena from the corner of my eyes just about to tip toe my way. She stopped abruptly when she realized that I already saw her.
“Hey Selena!” I called out waving my hand towards her.
She awkwardly scooted to hide behind a random column attached to the lobby, but before she could there were some random hands pushing her away to where she wanted. Selena stood straight and waved a hi.
I just looked at her confused and I didn’t know if I should even move, but I took a step forwards before Selena yelled out my name.
“Dylan! Wait!” Selena finally exclaimed walking her way over to me.
I turned myself so I would be looking dead straight at her. “Hello again. Did you want anything?”
Ever since we’ve been in this trip, I always watched myself since I didn’t really know what to do. Selena and I were in a confusing situation where I had no clue what we stood on. I mean I’d want more between the both of us cause I hated the fact that Selena just suddenly broke up with me.
Selena crossed her arms in front of her. The corner of her mouth twitched a bit indicating that she was somewhat nervous about telling me something. “I wanted to know if you were free tonight.”
“I actually am?” I questioned myself not knowing what I’d be doing in the next few hours. “Why?”
“Well, I wanted to know if you wanted to be my date in the bonfire tonight?” Selena asked me looking down trying to not make eye contact with me, probably because she thought it was embarrassing when a girl would ask a guy out.
I flashed a small smile. “I would love to be your date.”
She looked up finally staring back at me. “Oh my gosh! Really?”
“Yeah, of course! Why wouldn’t I? That’s what friends are for right?” I regretted what I said the moment it came out of my lips. She just asked me on a date and I said ‘friends’. How stupid is that?
I saw Selena’s lips turn to a frown, but quickly change when she saw that I was still staring at her. “Yeah, friends.”
Shit. I need time to rewind. How stupid was that? Oh God!
“Do you want to get some ice cream? I owe you one!” I insisted breaking the awkwardness that we just encountered.
Selena nodded and followed me while we walked through the boardwalk.
I rubbed my forehead furiously for being the dumbest person ever. I totally needed to prove to Selena that I’d want something more than just being friends because last time that happened during senior year was as awkward as this.
[Senior Year]
I sat down in my seat entering AP Statistics. I crossed my fingers hoping I had at least one person I knew in here to share some answers and do plenty of partner work.
The bell hadn’t rung yet so I slumped in my seat seeing no one I knew. Wow, first period of my senior year and I’m already hating it.
One more minute until the bell rung. I pulled my backpack from behind and sat it down in my desk facing away from the crowds of people I knew nothing about.
I fidgeted in my seat hearing the bell ring and I looked up to see no one sitting next to me. That’s the worst feeling ever, I’m not the most popular… But I still have some friends that are currently not in the same class as me.
Mr. Davis started to introduce himself while I zoned out and looked at the remaining classes I had towards the day before lunch. I ignored when I heard Mr. Davis making a joke of a student being late in the first period. How can that even happen?
I checked my phone to see if there had been any messages. Nothing!
My eyes grazed upon my wallpaper of Selena and I taking a selfie before we came home from our summer love. My face was scrunched up while her arms were around me giving a huge kiss on my cheek. We were so happy.
I felt a tap on my shoulder causing me to get out of my thoughts. My mouth dropped when I saw someone I didn’t even intend on seeing until lunch time. “Is this seat taken?” Her brunette hair was curled and she had her light make up on with a hint of her shiny lip gloss. She looked even more beautiful than before and I cursed to myself allowing her to break up with me all of a sudden.
I shook my head. “Not at all."
Selena quickly sat in the seat before Mr. Davis would rant about her not getting in a seat when she was already late for first period. “Thanks for letting me sit here.” There was a smile on her face.
“You’re welcome!” I replied quite enthusiastic as it needed to be. “That’s what friends are for.”
Her smile went to straight line when I mentioned friends. I regretted that. “Yeah, friends.”
