"It's your fault for not picking them up before getting up." Clicking my tongue, I bounced Winnie on my hip, watching as he tried on a couple more glasses. A few nights ago his glasses broke, well, he'd stepped on them and snapped them in half. Thankfully, his foot was just fine. "I don't think so." He was trying to get glasses that were identical to his last ones, and I really wanted him to go all out and try something different, maybe those circular glasses you saw on some people, we'd tried a few pairs on in Australia one time at a meet and greet, and I had to say, he looked pretty damn good in them. "Come on Phil, you can try something different." I knew he wouldn't want to though, he didn't like change /that/ much, despite all that had gone on over the past year or two, especially when Winnie. "Try them for me?" That would work.
Grabbing a pair for him, they were gold-rimmed, and kind of big, almost like the Snapchat filter that everyone went crazy over when we tried, yes, we'd gotten Snapchat. We'd even gone and followed some people, and got some pretty crazy Snapchats from time to time, but it did help when we were having a bad day, they made us laugh, and Winnie loved sending them something back, especially with the pretty filters. She took them from my hand and put them on Phil's face, grinning and squealing, clapping her tiny hands together with joy. She liked how Phil looked in them. "Get them, daddy! You need to get them, you look /so/ pretty! Just like a Princess! Papa, can I get a pair?" She was now looking expectantly towards me, I didn't even know if she needed glasses, so far the eye doctor told me she was just fine, but we might not know for a couple more years. Hopefully she didn't need them, glasses were expensive.
"Maybe, cub. But this is for daddy today, okay?" Setting her down, I helped Phil to straighten the glasses on his face, Winnie had been close, but she'd still missed a little bit. Giggling softly at how he looked, I nodded. "I think we might have a winner, Philly, what do you think?" With a gentle push, I let him take a look at himself, and his eyes lit up, looking over towards me. "I don't know, you are the one who is going to have to wear them, so you tell me, do you think you can wear them out and about?" Putting a hand on my hip, I smiled as Winnie mimicked me, scrunching up her face as she looked up at him. Rolling his eyes he punched my shoulder and flicked Winnie's forehead gently, but he was smiling and nodded. "Okay, let's go then."
"Why are glasses so expensive?" He was griping and complaining as we walked back to the car, and I just clicked my tongue, nudging him to stop. He was a 31 year old man, and he was acting like a child that didn't get the cookie they'd wanted. Sticking out his tongue towards me and crossed his arms against his chest as I opened the car and helped Winnie instead, putting her seatbelt on, and letting her settle before closing the door. "Do they really look okay, Dan?" He was fiddling with the lenses, pouting at me, and I just snickered, poking his nose, so what if this was considered public display of affection, we were just harmlessly flirting. Best friends could do that without meaning to, said most of the disbelievers on the YouTube comments.
Opening the side for him, I leaned up and pecked his cheek. "You look handsome, Philly, now get in, it's almost time for lunch, and you too get cranky if I don't feed you." Pushing him into the car he grumbled, but didn't put up much of a fight, smiling at me innocently after a minute like he didn't know what I was talking about, he knew exactly what I meant. "Winnie, what do you want for lunch today?" But she was awfully quiet, and I had to look back to make sure she was even there, but she seemed to be thinking, so I didn't say anything else, just got out of the parking lot, and onto the road. "What do you want Phil?" I heard what he was saying, being very specific as usual, but I was really focused on Winnie, something was off, and it almost looked like she was talking to somebody. But I never said a word, if I was really worried, I would bring it up when me and Phil were alone, though I doubt I would. She was only 5 years old, she probably had an imaginary friend, every little kid had at least one of those. I know I'd had quite a few, till the age of 18, because I didn't have any friends that actually stuck around.
