Checking on Winnie in the mirror I saw her clutching Miles' bracelet, the one I'd always seen him wearing whenever we'd pick him up or he'd stay over. "Winnie aren't you excited? You're gonna have someone new in the house to play with, a new friend." The look that was shot my way was filled with daggers and she only gripped the bracelet tighter. It'd been a month or two since Miles' had moved away and a few things had happened. I'd turned 31, Phil had gotten to another milestone of subscribers, and we were on our way to adopt another child. That's right you didn't misread that, me and Phil had agreed that it would be good for Winnie for she had another child around that she could be close with, someone she would be able to grow up with. We had debated on whether or not to get another girl but after a couple of discussions, basically me with my puppy dog eyes, we'd settled on getting a boy this time. Both me and Phil had grown up with brothers so we knew how it could be, despite the fact that I had been the older brother and Phil had been the younger brother. As Phil parked the car I turned around to see that she had curled into herself, probably thinking that we wouldn't be able to get her out of the car that way. "Let's go, Little Cub, you've gotta help us decide. If we're gonna have another addition to the family then you should probably have a say in it, hmm?" That didn't seem to convince her.
Phil was the one that got her out of the car while headed in and gave the ladies plenty of notice. I watched as Phil left with Winnie into a room further down the hall and sighed as I knew that this time I was going to get stuck with all the paperwork. At least this time we were more prepared. ..

When Daddy set me down all I wanted him to do was pick me up again, I didn't care if I was 9 years old I didn't want to be anywhere knew the children that were beginning to form around around us. "Daddy can we please go home? I promise not to be sad anymore if you promise not to get me a little brother." They would just end up stealing away all my attention and then that wouldn't be good for anyone. But he just pushed me gently into the small mob of children and left to go find Papa, so much for reliable parenting. Pushing away the small children I huffed and went to go collect myself in a corner, to where I found that it was already occupied. A small boy with dirty blonde hair and dark eyes looked up at me with curious eyes and I just glared at him in response. But all I got back was a smile. "What are you looking at, weirdo." With another huff I sat by him and crossed my arms over my chest as if though to make a point that I wasn't happy to be here. But he seemed to take that as an invitation to climb into my lap and lay his head on my chest. "What the heck do you think you're doing?" But the actions that followed didn't line up with those words. My arms made their way around his small body and something inside me yearned to give him everything he needed and more. He looked up at me with those dark eyes.
"Do you want to be my little brother?" My words were a whisper and I barely believed I had actually been the one to say them, but I knew that once they were out in the air I wouldn't be able to take them back. You didn't just do that to a child without a family. Give them hope and then rip it away from them. It took me a minute but eventually I got to my feet without letting him go and carried him all the way to front desk where Daddy and Papa were talking in hushed whispers. I hope they weren't fighting again. "Hello." I got onto my tiptoes to see the lady at the front desk and she went on her own to see over, an amused smile on her face. "I'd like to take him home with me, I thought I'd just give you a heads up before I walked out." Her light eyes twinkled and she nodded before writing down a few things, or pretending to, you never knew with grown ups. Once I got the okay to take him I spun on my heels and made for the front door, but not before I was stopped by Daddy and Papa. I silently cursed in my 9 year old way.
The little boy in my arms looked up at them with a curious gaze and I swear they both melted where they stood. "I guess we're going home." Leaning over to pick him up I stepped to the side so he wouldn't be able to, he was my little brother so I was going to carry him. "Alright. Just stay here until we fill out a few things, you two can get to know each other a bit better." Daddy picked us both up, with only a little effort, before sitting us on a bench and walking with Papa to the
front desk. I looked at the little boy sitting in my lap and tilted my head, he copied me slowly.
"Do you want to be my little brother?" Tipping my head to the other side he copied again. I put my head forward and back, nodding a couple of times and watched as he copied that as well, and made a grin appear on my face. "Then you're going to be my little brother and I'm going to take care of you and help you learn all there is to know about the world." Papa was back at our sides and he couldn't seem happier, especially when he told me his name. "I guess it suits you." I stuck out my tongue and was overjoyed when he did the same. I slid off the bench and onto the ground while being careful not to rock him much or to drop him. "Welcome to the family, Christopher."
Winnie Mae and Christopher Robin. "Papa. By any chance do you love Winnie the Pooh?"
