"When did we all get so old, Mae?" Looking down at the shorter being I watched her try to figure out an answer that would make sense to me and not send me into a frenzied panic. She nibbled on her bottom lip before looking up at me with shrug as if though it was the last thing on her mind and it didn't bother her at all. "But I'm almost 30 and Phil's in his mid-30s, don't you realise that Winnie is gonna be 10 soon?" She didn't answer but her expression showed me that she had indeed heard me, and realised everything. She wasn't one to talk about such stuff out in public though that had never stopped her before when she was on a ramble, but I knew she'd grown to prefer talking about this kind of stuff in private. Just the two of us. With an understanding smile I placed a hand on her shoulder and nodded, there was no need to go into detail right now, we could talk about it later at home. "But like, it's 2020 already, Mae."
Oddly coloured eyes looked up at me again but this time they were bored, or trying to show to others that they were bored, and pointed towards a shop. "Come on, weren't we on a mission to get something for Phil's birthday? It's already the middle of January and you still don't have anything for your own husband." Scoffing she led me towards a shop full of knickknacks and assorted treasures that I knew Phil would like and probably decorate our house with if he was given the chance. But I never really gave him the chance, I refused to live in such a lifestyle. "I mean if I had a wife or whatever, I think I'd want to get them something special and one of a kind, don't you agree?" Holding up a trinket she smiled and placed it in my to inspect and see if it was worthy enough. It was interesting but surely nothing Phil would enjoy, he mostly liked little things that looked almost worthless but he made work or look beautiful. I guess that's what he did with me. "Maybe something more personal will do the trick? Maybe a picture of you and Winnie with a cheesy captain, you know?" Throwing a locket at me she smiled a bit and left me on my own, going to look by herself. Wandering around on my own had it's perks but I knew that I'd much rather be shopping with someone else. Because I was an impulsive buyer. Gently tracing various items with the tips of my fingers I smiled at the things they sold here, they were all so pretty and unique. I had never let go of the locket, it seemed special. A bit of an engravement and it would be almost to perfect for Phil. But nothing was for him.
"Well come on, we've got what we came here for, don't we?" She'd known from the start that the locket would be what I'd choose. Holding the locket close to me I nodded and followed her to the checkout desk. After purchasing it I decided to go to a jewelry shop. I really did want to have it engraved. "Do you know what it's going to say or do you need a little more time for that?" I nodded my head knowing exactly what I wanted it to say, something that had been among the first words I'd ever spoken to Phil, the words that he'd told me over and over again made him first fall in love with me, among multiple other things. "Well alright then, let's go and then get you back home before Phil starts to freak out or something, he worries to much."

"Are you cold? Do you feel okay? You shouldn't have been out for so long without a jacket or something!" He was mothering me, checking me to make sure I wasn't bruised or anything, I had forgotten to take a jacket, and then decided that it wasn't worth going back for, it wasn't that cold after all, despite still kind of being winter in London. He wrapped his arms around me in an attempt to keep me warm, looking towards Mae who was rolling her eyes and not even looking towards us. He deflated, but after pecking his lips he perked right back up. But he wasn't as perky as before. "Winnie and me made some tea for when you guys got back, you planning on staying, Mae?" He looked towards her hopefully but she just shook her head, she claimed that she had something important to do but I knew that she was just lying. Did she really not like Phil? Pouting he watched her leave and finally let out a defeated sigh. "Forget what I said about her warming up to me, she totally hates me, and now you can't deny that."
I knew I couldn't deny it but I didn't say anything else about it, wrapping my arms around him in return and kissing him again. "Philly, you really need to stop worrying so much, I mean seriously, I wasn't even out for that long, but I promise next time I'll remember to wear a jacket okay?" He nodded with a gentle sigh, breathing against my neck softly. He was calming down and thinking, something important was obviously on his mind. "Honestly, you're gonna keel over one day from worrying so much, and I really don't want that to happen, alright?"
"Alright." He whispered, pulling away after a few more moments of embracing me and then smiled like nothing had even happened. What exactly had happened while I'd been gone?
