*Friar's apartment*

"I can't believe you said that to Riley!" Lydia said with wide eyes. "You finally slapped some reality in her face!"

"I don't think you should have done that." Lucas argued.

I looked at him with a frown, "why not? I was getting really irritated by her and just snapped. I know I shouldn't have yelled at her, but she wouldn't listen."

"Yes, I know that." Lucas nodded, "but you have to be gentle with Riley."

"Gentle?" I questioned, standing up from the couch. "She's the one demanding you to tell her about your past. She says you're not a good friend for not telling her about it. She's the one that's not being a good friend. A good friend wouldn't try to pry things out of you like that. She's making this about herself, she's acting as if she's the victim. As always."

"She just doesn't understand." Lucas said.

I crossed my arms over my chest. "Are you seriously defending her right now? Tell me one time Riley didn't make a situation about her." Lucas looked away. "Go ahead and defend her all you want, but I'm tired of it."

"What are you talking about?" Lydia questioned.

"I'm tired of all this Riley drama." I said.

"She's your best friend." Lucas said.

I frowned at him and said, "I know she is. But things change and life goes on."

"Why are you being like this?" Lucas asked.

"Why are you being like this?" I shot back. "We all know it's true, you're just too afraid to say it."

"Riley just doesn't understand," Lucas said for the second time.

"No, she doesn't understand! She's always in her head thinking everything is all sunshine and rainbows. Guess what? Life sucks and we have no control over what happens to us."

"Maybe you're trying to make this about you." Lucas accused. "Riley brought up your mother and then you snapped."

"Okay guys," Lydia cut in. "That's enough."

"I'm making this about myself?" I questioned with a laugh. "Maybe I am, maybe I'm not. I'm just saying the things you guys are too afraid to say because you don't want our precious little Riley getting hurt."

Lucas towered over me, his voice rose with every word. "Just because you're having a rough time doesn't mean you can take your anger out on us."

"Lucas." Lydia tried to pull Lucas away, but he wouldn't move.

"What are you going to do?" I laughed, "hit me?"

"Get out." Lucas growling loudly.

I stepped back. "You know, I liked you. Like actually like you. I trusted you with things I would never tell anyone. But whenever it comes to Riley, you're a completely different person. One minute you're defending me and helping me from slipping away. Then the next you're against me. I have no problem with whatever is going on between you and Riley, but do not act like two different people just because you don't know how you feel. It hurts."

*John Quincy Adams Middle School History class*

"Al washes a car in six minutes." Cory said. "Fred washes the same car in eight minutes. How long does it take Al and Fred to wash the same car together?"

"This isn't math class," Lydia said with a groan.

"How is this anything?" Riley asked.

"Three minutes twenty-five point seven seconds." Farkle said confidently.
