Liam POV
"Simon, this is the guy you didn't put through?" I chuckled.
"He wasn't quite ready when he came to my house two years ago, but I said to him then, come back two years time, and you're going to be a different person. I got it right!" Simon laughed. The crowd cheered. His words really hit home. I was a different person. And proud.
"Now we're going to vote," he said. I didn't want to keep my hopes high, but I still had confidence just from their responses.. My heart was beating, but I was ready. I knew I was ready.
I glanced at Kelsey from the side, her blue eyes bright from all the way backstage, two big thumbs up as her smile looked like it was about to rip her cheeks.
"I'm going to say yes," I turned back and smiled, thanking him.
"Natalie?"
"It's a yes from me," Oh dear. Two yes'... Cc'mon now.
"Cheryl?"
"It's a yes from me. Definitely a yes," Yes. Yes. Yes... C'mon Simon.
"Simon? Is it a yes or a no?"
"Based on talent. Absolutely incredible. One massive, fat, almighty yes," Simon finished. I let out a deep breath then, and couldn't stop smiling.
I made it! I made it!! I thanked them one final time, before I headed backstage, my parents embracing me in the tightest hug ever.
It felt like a dream. It really did.
I turned to find Kelsey, tears welled up in her eyes.
"I'm so proud of you, Liam," she shook her head, a smile on her face. I pulled her close and kissed her harshly. And she chuckled before pulling away, a blush on her face as everyone laughed.
"The guys made it through, too," she whispered, hugging me tightly. I opened my mouth to say something.
"Liam Payne?" a man called. I turn to him, and he signaled for us to follow.
"We need just Liam and his mother and father," he sighed sadly. I looked at Kelsey, and she smiled, pecking me one last time before she waved me off.
"I love you," I murmured, and she looked down before looking back up.
"I love you too, Liam. Now go," she hushed me, and we laughed, before I walked up.
Kelsey POV
Nothing can deny how happy I was for Liam. He told me he wanted to take me along with him, but I denied it. As badly as I wanted to be there for him, I had gotten a call back home a few days later while Liam was at 'boot camp' with the rest of the guys. I didn't want to tell him that I was already at Stage 3 of my kidney disease..Almost to 4 in around a month or so...
I realized that my kidney donor would take over 2 years to be recieved... and I have been given around 6 months... until my final stage of kidney disease.
I'm not going to get Dialysis.
It's now been a few weeks without Liam at school... and things are pretty... lonely. But now Liam was a part of the group Simon put together.. and it looks like they're going to making it big. Just the thought made me smile, because even though he's super busy now.. He seemed happy.
"So, One Direction's side chick, eh?" Aiden slipped beside me at lunch. Essie was absent today.
"Excuse me?" I scoffed, before Aiden looked around, remembering that Liam wasn't really here anymore.
"You seem sad," he tried to wrap his hand around my shoulder. " It's kinda' sad that Liam would leave you behind," he looked at me when I pulled his arm off. He was really getting on my nerves.
"He didn't leave me behind. I chose not to go," I hissed back. Aiden rose his hands in defeat, before sitting in the seat in front of me.
"Then why do you always look like you're expecting him to show up or something?" Aiden crossed his hands over his chest, raising an eyebrow.
"I don't think he even asked you to prom, didn't he?" Aiden laughed in disbelief.
"Leave me alone, asshole," I stood up, heading for the girl's bathroom.
"I'm just trying to get your hopes down, Kels. Liam has thousands of girls all over him now, and from a guy's point of view, that's not the best time to stay away, especially if you chose to," he said in a matter of fact.
I stopped in the middle of the lunch room, turning one last time to look at Aiden, finding him flicking his eyes from my bum back to my face.
"He's not a man whore like you, Aiden. I trust him." I scoffed before stepping out.
I walked into the field, taking out my phone to call Liam... until I realized that he was probably busy..
"I trust him," I repeated, feeling the void dig into my chest.
Why do I feel like I needed him more than he ever needed me.
And just then, my phone rang. And I desperately reach for it in my pocket. The Caller ID making me smile.
"Liam?" I breathed, taking steps across the grass.
"Hey Kelsey," he murmured happily, you could hear the squirming of object on the side.. Sounded ... busy.
"How are you, babe? I miss you" Liam began, the chattering and complaining of Zayn in the room definitely told me they were getting their hair done. His words sent a wave of relief over me.. but I still wanted to cry, because I wanted to hear it in person.
"I miss you, too.. So, um..How's One Direction going?" I giggled, trying to keep this conversation going.. It made me sad that we seem so distant. Someone called Liam in the background, and I pursed my lips, I knew this wouldn't last long.
"Kels, I have to go... but I also wanted to tell you that I won't make it in time for prom with you," he huffed sadly.
The void just deepened as I tried to reply back..
"Uh.. t-that's fine. I mean, I thought you were going with someone else," I tried to laugh off Aiden's words.
"Kels, I wouldn't have gone with anyone else but you. You're mine," he laughed, before a small side conversation made the smile I had disappear again. I guess I'm not going to prom.
"But, I still want you to go, Kels. Go with Essie maybe she can-" Liam was cut short when someone took a hold of the phone.
"By the way, tell her that Niall has been trying to get a hold of her. And he misses her too," Niall's tone was anxious, with a tint of play-fullness. I laughed when Niall 'ow'ed and Liam had the phone again.
"Anyways, I-"
"One Direction, on in three," a man called in the background. I sighed...
"You're busy, Liam. Call me whenever you have the time, love," I said softly, trying to hide the sadness.
"What?" he asked, seeming too busy. I was just a distraction now.. We don't want that.
So I just hung up.
