"Shawn, it isn't all about you!" You yell at your new date who's started to speak about himself again instead of letting you speak.

"What?" He asks, seeming to be genuinely confused.

"It's just... Shawn, all you do is talk about yourself and if this is how the first date is, I don't think we should see each other again."

"Y/N, no, no! I promise I won't talk about myself again," he says, sheepishly adding, "you're just so great and I want to seem cool by talking about myself a lot."

"It makes you seem self absorbed, not cool."

"Yeah, and I realize that now! I don't want you to think I'm that way, I'm not. I just get really nervous when I'm around cute girls and I feel the need to talk about myself. I'm really sorry, I just don't know how else to seem cool and so I talk-"

"Woah, calm down," you interrupt, laughing as you do.

"Right, right. I didn't mean to go on a random rant, it's just sometimes and I should try to stop it because I bet it does get really really anno-"

"You're doing it again," you tell him.

He stops talking immediately and shakes his head as if he's annoyed with himself.

"I'm sorry," he says. "I think you should talk instead."

You give him an understanding smile, remembering the many times you've made a bad impression on dates and ask, "Let's start over?"

"That would be great," he says. "I'm Shawn, Shawn Mendes."

"And I'm Y/N, Y/N L/N. What do you work as?"

"I received a record deal from Island Records recently and my EP is going to be released in three months which is very exciting. Actually, I was once offered a record deal at 14 but that's a story for another time."

"That's great, Shawn! I also want to hear the story," you say eagerly.

He seems hesitant and asks, "I wouldn't be talking about myself too much?"

"Shawn, I asked," you tell him.

He laughs and begins his story, "when I was 14, I was discovered by a talent manager and was offered a record deal, the catch was though, it was a group deal. I had to work with 4 other boys to make a group called, 'Fifth Harmonists,' and I ultimately declined because the 4 boys seemed... okay, they were jerks. I didn't want to be held back for a singing career and so I declined. Look now, they're broken up and I'm the one that's actually going to make a music career."

"It's crazy how things work out and I'm glad that you ended up with a record deal in the end."

"Yeah, it's crazy how things turn out and sure, it may have been scary that I didn't accept that deal but that fame would have been short lived. I don't want to sound greedy or such but I want long term fame so I can make my mark in the world. I wasn't going to get that with that group who didn't even care for me or appreciate me."

"I hope things turn out great for you."

"Thanks," he says.

"Hm, maybe we can find that out... together?"

"Really?" He asks, his eyes opening widely in shock.

"Yeah, I think you're a great guy Shawn and I don't want to miss out on the great times we can have together."

You both smile and look deeply into each other's eyes.

You're glad you made the right decision to give him a chance.

Okay, though, like don't always give someone that's ALWAYS talking about themselves another chance because they will most likely keep on doing it. One sided friendships are NOT fun.

I just wanted to give the story a happy ending though lol 😂 besides, who wouldn't give Shawn another chance? Wait, when would Shawn ever mess up though 😂😂
