Chapter Fourty-Nine: Flashbacks

"Yay! Itachi and Akira are hosting a slumber party~!" Tobi hummed. Oh, dear. I can't believe I just let this group of people stay under my roof for up to a few days.

Age Ten

"Ita, where are we going?" I skipped alongside my best friend, who just walked beside me. He'd been previously promoted to Chunin at only 10 years old. I was as well.

He grabbed my hand which caused my heart to skip a beat.

"Just trust me, okay?" He looked at me and gave a small smile.

"Hm, I guess I can trust you." I teased and earned myself a small laugh. 

He led me to a little bakery and had a seat already saved. He took me to it and pulled a chair out for me, then himself. There was already two glasses of water and a cake in the center of the table. I was a surprised that he brought me here.

"Ita, why'd you bring me here?" I asked. A grabbed a slice of cake. 

"To congratulate you on becoming a chunin!" He smiled at me and a huge blush spread across my entire face. I laughed a bit as I took a sip of my water.

Age Thirteen

I strolled down the streets of the Uchiha compound with Itachi on my side, and Shisui on his. We were joking about nothing important, when Sasuke ran up behind us, enveloping Itachi's back in a huge hug.

"Older Brother!" He yelled out. He then glanced to Shisui and then to me.

"Akira, Shisui. Hi!" He sure was an energetic kid.

"Hey, Sasuke." Sasuke nudged his way in between Itachi and I. I glared at him jokingly. He stuck his tongue out at me.

"Yo, Sasuke! If I were you, I'd watch yourself. She's got a real big crush on your big brother. She might hit ya if you get in her way." Shisui winked at Sasuke, then looked at Itachi and I. We each had a blush on our face.

"Shisui... You shouldn't say that kind of a thing." Itachi mumbled.

"S-Shisui! If you don't shut your mouth I'll clobber you!"

Age Sixteen

I sat on the couch awaiting Sasuke to come out of his room for school. Today's the day I set off to give Itachi the scroll that I collected late last night.

Sasuke came walking down the stairs, eyes as tired and sad as they've been since the massacre.

"Sasuke... Come here." Sasuke glanced at me before walking in my direction. When he got to me. I knelt down on the floor the meet his eyes and put my hands on either of his shoulders.

"What're you doing, Akira?"

"Sasuke... I love you like you're my own brother. You known that, right," He just scoffed at me. "When you become a ninja, In want you to protect everything close to you. Everything that you truly love."

"Yeah, I get it... What's all this about?"

"I- It's nothing. Just- just please listen to me, Sasuke. Protect them." With those words, I sent Sasuke on his way. He was completely confused.

Soon, my mother and father walked downstairs.

"Good morning, Akira. Has Sasuke already gone?" Father asked me. I nodded and ran to the both of them, giving them a huge hug. I didn't let go, but whispered into their ears.

"Father, Mother. I love both of you... So, so much. I've got to be going for a little while now."

"We love you, too sweetheart. What's this about? Are you in danger?" My mother asked me. Tears burned in my eyes and dripped onto the shoulders of my parents.

"No, nothing like that. I promise I'm okay. Go ahead to work." I let out a dry chuckle. My mom nodded.

"Okay Akira. I'll see you when I get home, then?"

"Yeah, Mother. You will." I lied. They let go of me and I took a step up the stairs around them. They gave me a weird look but nonetheless left.

I was glad I got to say goodbye.
