"Pretty neat, huh?" I asked him. His lips curled into a smirk.

"Yeah, I guess so. Hm."

I find the big boulder outside is a nice place to read. Sure, it's quiet inside the hideout, but, it's a lot prettier outside, not as dull and lifeless. Spending years alone and wishing to be elsewhere, with Itachi, and ironically, I prefer being alone. The boulder is the perfect place. Normally, I'll come out before morning and watch the sun emerge from behind the trees.

Sometimes Itachi or Deidara will join me if they're awake, but never together. I've discovered they don't particularly get along nicely. Itachi could sit out here for hours, waiting for me to strike up a conversation or in some cases start one himself. On the contrary to Deidara, who seems to be distracted easily and usually leaves a few minutes after talking my ear off. They have very different personalities.

Today, I set off on a mission. The mission is to kill a shinobi who has intel on the Aktsuki that she shouldn't. Her name, what we believe is her name, is Samichi. As far as we know, she isn't affiliated with a village. The person to be accompanying me is Deidara. That's useful because we already know eachother. It isn't useful because we don't know the current whereabouts of Samichi, and neither of us are sensory ninjas. She was last spotted near the Hidden Sand, but it'll be a pain to capture and kill her.

I make my way down to the exit of the cave and find Deidara waiting for me there. "Alright. Ready to leave?" I ask him.

"I've been ready for ten minutes, hm." He barked.

"Sheesh, let's go, then." This trip isn't any joke, our deadline is a year. I'm going to spend my birthday on a mission with a kid, and not my boyfriend. I already said goodbye to Itachi, and reassured him, told him not to worry about me.

Hopefully this doesn't end with me failing the mission, or me or Deidara dying. I'd hate to see how Pain would react to me failing the mission. Or how Itachi'd react to my death. Nonsense, I'm not going to die.

We've been walking for three hours-ish, and I'm so bored, I feel like I'm going to fall asleep right-side-up.

"Hey, Kid. Let's play a game."

"What sorta game?"

"Well, more like a bet. Fire Flower blooms around here. How about whoever finds a cluster of them first, without straying from out path, wins."

"And? What about the loser? What even is a Fire Flower?"

"The winner has to buy dinner. Fire Flower is an orange and yellow orchid with a stem that sounds like a fire crackling when it's pulled on."

"You're on, hm." So we silently search around, and in the end Deidara ended up with a bouquet of six of them in his hands.

"Put one in your hair." I demanded.

"W-what? No! What do you think I am, hm."

"Do it!" I shove the flower in his thick, blonde hair, he sighs, but doesn't try to take it out.

"Has anyone ever told you that orange is definitely your color?" I joked.

"No, that's weird."
