Invasive (Part 1)

Jack walked down the street to his apartment after going down to Brighton bay to vlog. He had just turned off his camera, and started to browse through his cooked up social media as he commonly did so.

The large, loyal JSE Community of his was always there to greet him with a big smile. Not once was he ever alone. Someone was always there to listen to him, even if he had done something terribly wrong.

Jack grew a tiny grin across his face as he scrolled through his Tumblr and Twitter, admiring and liking people's wonderful, eye-catching fanart left and right.

That's when it him.

Something suddenly caught Jack's sharp ears, making him stop in his tracks instinctively to listen. It sounded like a Borrower, squealing and squirming in the distance. His Predator instincts perked up inside him, instantly following the noise with a sly smirk on his face.

"Bingo..." Jack said to himself.

The scent which Jack caught of the Borrower led him behind a dark, abandoned alleyway, and into a clearing surrounded by shrub trees. The noise then caught his senses again. He went silent, and listened.

*Squeak! Squeak!*

Jack's head snapped towards the tree standing in the very middle. It was coming from in there.

To not alert the Borrower that the he was nearby in the area, Jack quietly krept towards the Borrower like a lion sneaking up and getting ready to pounce onto a gazelle; its prey.

Jack hasn't gotten ahold of a Borrower in forever. He'd only eaten "organic" human food for the past year. The thought of how good they were in the past made his mouth tingle in delight. He couldn't bear to miss any chance of catching a Borrower if one were ever to appear. This was no exception.

Jack struggled to hold himself back from growling. He neared the tree step by step, the squeaking getting louder and louder by the second he approached it. He got ready to jump.

He halted himself.

Something clicked into his instincts. He sniffed the scent in the air again for a few seconds, making him freeze.

It's not a Borrower.
It's not a Borrower at all.

It's something else, but Jack didn't know what it was. He didn't recognize the scent from anywhere. Was it a new invasive species he'd just found right in the center of Brighton?

Jack stood up from his crouching position, and brushed the tree branches away, getting a good look at the whimpering creature.

He gasped.

"Holy shit...!"

Jack couldn't describe what he was staring  at. It baffled him.

It looked like a Borrower crossed with a bat. It had short light grey fur all over its body, with skinny frail arms and hands. It's large eyes were vibrant and saturated, and had two separate colors in each iris like a Siberian Husky would have. Its left iris was silver, whilst the other was gold. It had a stubbed, short, pushed-in nose, which perfectly corresponded with its large, sharp-teeth mouth. Its long, twitchy pointed ears stook up on each side of its head like two TV antennas. Its feet were tiny and stubbed like its nose, but were sharp and stretched at the three spread out toes on each.

What caught Jack's sight most, although, was its wings.

They flapped wildly and uncontrollably. Jack noticed a bloody cut in each wing. To a giant, it would look as simple as a paper cut,  but to one of them, it would be as painful as your throat getting slit. (HahA fuNnY jOkE.)

Jack frowned in sadness, care, and regret.

Sadness- because it was hurt like hell.

Care- because he wanted to help them.

Regret- because he was probably scaring the everlasting wits out of the little thing unintentionally.

Jack could see its tiny tears soaking a line of fur down the creature's face as its eyes staring at him lidded closed. He nudged at the body with his finger a few times, receiving no response. He panicked fearfully, and without thought tore and snapped through the tree branches, being mindful not to hurt the caught creature anymore than it already was, freeing it successfully.

"Shit! I gotta get my A.I.D. Kit!" Jack said.

He cupped the creature into his hands and held it up to his chest protectively and to give it heat. Jack knew he couldn't let anyone see the creature; God knows what they'd do to the innocent little thing.

Then Jack remembered- the apartment. He wasn't that much farther away from reaching it until he was stopped by the creature's scent. You weren't allowed to have any pets in the apartment home unless they were either fish or a Borrower. But Jack could give two fucks about that rule now. Technically whatever this creature was... was a Borrower. At least- a species which is related to them in certain way.

He recognized the path he had came from, and raced through the old alleyway once again, charging his way home.

"I'm not going to let you die. Not on my hands."
