The table flicked the tiny Nano around left and right carelessly, making her freeze in one corner, and making her jump in another. Laughter surrounded her every jolting movement away from one of them. Whenever she tried to run away, she was simply dragged back towards them by the pinch of her ankle. Her eyes were at a constant state of glowing purple of fear.

The Nano was cut up and purple with bruises all around her body from being roughly tossed around the table. Her walk was limp whenever she was giving a chance to stand, and the group laughed at it with taunt after taunt.

"Hassle up tiny!"

"A tortoise could beat you in a race with that pace."

"You cant be down already! We're only getting started!"

"You're never going to make it."

"Looks like we need to give the little one a bit of a push~."

A finger shoved the Nano down on her stomach, her face hitting the table wide and clear. The palms of her hands burned as they tried to brace her fall in an incorrect position. She let out a gasp in pain, shakily trying to lift herself up with her arms, but her head was dizzy and her movement was almost drunk. As soon as she got to her feet, another finger pushed her by the hip, making her stumble to the side and collapse all over again. The table up roared in laughter. The Nano squeaked, unable to get to her feet anymore, and she lay limp on the table hopelessly.

The room suddenly went quiet as the door creaked open. A tall figure walked into the light, more intimidating than the rest. It was like a western stand off throughout the room. Nobody moved. The tall figure kept his eyes locked on the Nano, and she struggled to resist the urge to even sniffle.

The tall figure finally spoke, making everyone rattle to the bone.

"... No one ever told me we got on'a them little squeakers here."

A man out of the group bravely answered for everyone else, although he'd regret that decision quickly after.

"We've had it for a-awhile."

The figure turned towards the man slowly with a dead stare, and everyone held their breath. He tilted his head to the side, leaning towards the man across the table.

"What did you just say?"

The man rasped a breath.

"W-we've had it for awh-"

The figure grabbed the man by the throat and yanked him over the table so he was right up in his face, making the entire table jump. The figure bared his teeth out at the man as he spoke like he was going to bite him square in the face.

"It?"

The figure strengthened his grip on the man's neck at the word, and the man let out a struggled exhale.

"I-I'm s-s-sorry-"

"Call the little squeaker an it again, and where I'm holding you right now will eventually be home to a bloodbath."

The figure released his grip of the man's neck, tossing him into the wall with a loud bang. The Nano had gotten to her feet by now, looking up at the figure shakily.

"Let this be a lesson for all of you."

The figure looked down at the Nano, making her whimper.

"You'll be coming with me little girl." He held out his hand towards her, but another man of the group put his hand on the figure's arm in an attempt to stop him from reaching out.

"Now hold on just a minute-"

Big mistake.

The figure instantaneously whipped out a blade from his free hand and held it towards the other man's throat, making his heart go still. He released his grip of the figure's arm slowly.

"Maybe what I said didn't get into your head deep enough."

The figure pressured the knife's edge on his skin more.

"Lay a finger on me one more time and this blade will sliver your gullet into a makeshift scarf."

The figure sickly smiled at him, pulling his knife away slowly. The man gasped, holding at his neck which now had a burning red mark on it.

The figure skimmed the rest of the table's men, who each backed away when their eyes locked.

"Next person to get in my way of things won't be given a warning." He pointed out his sharp blade at the group threateningly.

The Nano was stunned at the figure's words, almost not even wanting to go with him despite how much of a hellhole the place already was. But, she didn't want to risk getting "in his way of things."

The figure looked down at her once again, grabbing the trembling Nano by the waist rather gently, and taking her out of the room. The figure stopped for a moment right at the entrance of the doorway, turning back towards the paralyzed group.

"You better pray that God forbid I catch another squeaker in here or else I'll show you all what hell on earth is like."

Right as he finished, the door was slammed shut from behind him, and the figure walked out of the silent bar hastily without a word.

When the Nano and the figure reached an alleyway (shortcut) which led to a bright apartment, the figure looked down at the Nano.

"My apologies for what you had to witness back there."

He pat the Nano on the head lightly as an attempt to comfort her.

"Verbal aggression is just a habit of mine. I'd never truly do any of what I said back there."

Yes he would.

"You see that building right there squeaker?" He pointed towards it, and the Nano nodded.

"Go there. Inside you'll find a man who'll take good care of you and clean your wounds. His name is Seán. He looks basically like my twin, so you'll find him easily." The figure placed the Nano on the ground.

"This is as close as I can get. The others will kill me if I attempt to go inside." The Nano nodded.

The Nano attempted to speak, but it was too quiet for him to hear. He crouched down closer to listen intently.

"N-name...?" The girl squeaked out, making the figure sigh.

"Call me whatever you'd like. I can't let you know my real name."

The figure pat the Nano by the head once more.

"Scamper off now squeaker. It's getting late. The other little critters will come out soon."

The Nano looked as if she was about to dart into the grass, but then ran over and nuzzled the figure by the nose with a pur. Her eyes glowed a warm pink in affection, her sharp ears trickling down at the sides of her head.

"G-good man *hic* come b-back...?"

The figure bit his lip at being called "good man."

"Eventually I'll pay a visit squeaker, I promise." He said with a genuine, harmless smile nobody had ever seen the figure with before.

The Nano nodded, waving goodbye to the figure with a squeak, and the figure returned it before the Nano then disappeared into the tall grass in the blink of an eye.

The figure stood up, looking at the grass for a minute, before smiling to himself as he then glitched away with an echo of static left behind.
