I'm not saying I like him.
Well, yeah, I basically am. Not in the way you think, though.
He's... Interesting... It's a curiosity-type liking of him. Maybe I feel a little sorrowful for him too.
Borrowers know about Bean holidays? Of course. We've gradually learned, at least. We still have yet to understand the whole gist of them and origin, but we get the basic idea.
The one celebrated today by the Beans is supposedly called Vanelteen's Day; a day for love, care, embracing relations... This one we Borrowers couldn't really understand. Shouldn't Vanelteen's Day basically be an everyday thing? We thought it was interesting, nonetheless.
However, unlike most Beans, mine didn't have a partner. He lived independently and seemed quite lonesome. However, after I myself gradually got used to things around here, it didn't seem like he was bothered by it very much. He was incredibly receptive of it, surprisingly. It put a heavy weight off my chest that most Borrowers would have to stress over, which would be dealing with multiple Beans in one household. Now I just had to keep track of one, which at the same time was pretty damn easy to figure out where he was at the same time. My Bean, admittedly, is quite boisterous. Due to that, I'm usually able to figure out which room he's in at the same time, and that's not necessarily even counting his voice, which is a common occurrence of when I can hear him.
I was only able to figure it out that it was Vanelteen’s Day with the scent that arouses the kitchen- it's the same one every time, maybe a little different, but not recognizing it is slim-to-none. It's hard to describe… very luscious, smooth, appetizing; it'll get your mouth watering.
I've only got my hands on this food once before, and for some reason, the Beans have them wrapped up in this protective shield. I don't know why it would have to be guarded, but I would assume it's to prevent other Beans from tearing into it easily. It took a pretty~ long time to get it off. I almost gave up, but that longing scent kept me going.
Today, that same scent returned. Once again, a little shifted in fragrance, but I knew it all too well to be misdirected into believing it to be something else. I bolted for the kitchen, snatching my eyes into one of the holes to peek through and watch the Bean enter. He placed a single bag them dead-flat on the counter, right in front of one of my hidden holes.
Perfect choice, Bean. I smirked pridefully.
He tore through the bag like it was tissue paper, and pulled out a handful for himself, before walking away as he opened the shiny protective shield off one of them. I instantaneously ran out after the close was clear, and I gazed up at the bag, attempting to read it.
I tilted my head to the left, then to the right, but I couldn't tell what it said.
“H… Y… is that an E? No, an A? That one's an S for sure…”
After a minute, I gave up on trying to figure out the name. All the other times I've tried figuring out the names of it were unsuccessful, except once before when I could barely read out the name “Dove”, probably because it was so short compared to the others.
If you couldn't tell already, Borrowers aren't the best at reading.
I slipped my way through the large tear in the bag, fitting in like a glove. The scent completely aroused me on the spot, and I would have nearly passed out if I had any less self-composure. They were everywhere, sparkling in all different colors… not to be mistaken with shapes- they were all carved out as basic hearts.
I knew not to keep myself glamouring at them for too long, knowing that the Bean could return at any moment. I snatched at the first one I caught my eyes on, which was a nice sliver-white.
It was unpredictably light, and I was able to squeeze it into the wall way easier than I had originally planned to. Looks can deceive, I mentally noted.
I listened for the Bean if he was nearby, and skimmed the entirety of the kitchen for any abnormal figures, but it was completely silent, and all was clear. At that, I made a second run for another large treat.
The next one I grabbed was covered in a silky blue, and it didn't entirely smell the same as the white; it had an additional scent to it, one that I also recognized, but didn't have a name for it. I took it anyway, knowing that scent's food (if it was what I was thinking of) was also quite delicious.
Then I took another.
And another.
And another.
Then I heard the click.
No time to waste, I knew I had no choice but to drop the rose-pink one I was currently dragging mid-way on the counter, and take refuge in the hole with all the others I had already snagged. Either get caught whilst in the middle of taking a Bean's food with a chance of sudden death, or simply leave it behind and only cause possible suspicion.
Out of curiosity, I watched as the Bean entered the kitchen once again, and he went straight for the bag. He stopped mid-way, noticing something shiny behind it that'd caught his eye. His hand inched towards the rose-pink one I had left behind, and my heart had skipped a beat. He tilted his head, staring at it for a minute. Unexpectedly, he raised his brows carelessly, and carried it away with him along with the rest of the bag.
My eyebrows furrowed for a moment, before shoving my hearts back to my room in the walls breathlessly. I was just happy that the Bean wasn't too suspicious about it. Maybe he was a little stirred up in the head? It happened occasionally to everyone, Borrowers and Beans.
Upon going back to my bedroom, I shoved the hearts all off to the corner, except for the first shiny white one I had taken. I flipped it over and began to violently tear at the weak spot of the protective shield. I was nearly about to reach the inside- until I suddenly felt a bump right outside the wall. I froze, listening if any noise followed. There was nothing.
I gradually let go of the white heart, and slowly kept outside of the wall of my bedroom. It was placed right behind the Bean's “large black futuristic room tablets” with many wires, making it perfectly concealed from view. Upon walking out from the rough wooden wall to the smoothly carved desk, I saw it. Nobody was in the room, however, the door creaked open, there it was. Right in front of my bedroom.
It was the rose-pink heart.
