"C'mon! The light is on!" Jack begged you forward.

"Listen, I've been trick or treating since I could only crawl. I can tell the difference between a scary house and a... scary, scary house. That right there is a house that screams bloody murder." You retorted concerningly.

Jack grabbed your hand playfully in his Deadpool costume as you followed, dressed in your makeshift ___________ outfit. Together, your pair of costumes gathered the eyes of many, with even a few pictures to follow. Jack managed to hide his famous persona underneath his Deadpool costume, pulling off a deep voice to whichever stranger he spoke to in order to keep his identity secret from both of you getting mobbed. Your costume did the same for your case.

"Are you serious!?" You whispered to him, almost panicked.

"Of all the times I've gone down here for Halloween, nobody's come to this house!" You warned him.

Jack rolled his eyes as you both stood upon the porch steps, readying your pillow sacks already filled with a few pounds of candy. You would've purchased the plastic pumpkin baskets at your local store if you weren't already aware of how filling this part of the neighborhood was for candy.

This house, no matter the time of year it was, always gave you the creeps as you passed by it. Unironically, Halloween night was always at its peak of eeriness, observing as every other lawn was flocked with children and parents alike except for this lawn... Isolated, dull, and downright disturbing. No decorations were put up, and no colorful lights were strung around its interior. Just one single buzzing light-bulb right above the tattered screen door below.

"Does this not radiate any sort of concern to you or are you just that reckless?" You sneered towards him.

"I must be!" He whispered to you with a broad grin you could see even underneath the mask as he knocked on the pane of the door.

You took a deep breath, adjusting your hold on your bag of candy. Biting lightly on the gum of your mouth, the silhouette of a figure stepped forward. Your hearts collectively raced, Jack's in excitement, yours in worry.

As the door creaked open, a tall hooded person stepped forward with a common bloody clown mask worn over their face. In front of them was a bin of colorful candy, which really looked like a pile of bootleg Starburst knockoffs.

"Trick or treat!" Jack spoke for the two of you, holding out your bags.

"Wonderful costumes you two have," they spoke as if they had a voice changer.

"I appreciate the company. Nobody has come to me for candy in a long time," it almost seemed to appear that they were guilty.

A single piece of candy was dropped into each of your bags. Just like that, they were already waving towards you both as they shut the door behind them.

"Happy Halloween my friends, stay safe!" They called as they cackled their way back inside their home, slamming their door so harshly it caused their frontal light to flicker more than it had already.

You flinched slightly as you and Jack stepped down onto the packed sidewalks of Halloween night once again. You stared at him, blinking once.

"What's the matter? They were friendly, were they not?" He pat you on the shoulder carelessly.

"Only thing is that they totally should've gave us more fuckin' candy, they had so much in there for how many people even pass by," Jack rolled his eyes, flipping his bag across his shoulder.
