You were a student in Borrower school. You got an education in the forest, keeping away from any public places home to any giants. You took your education seriously, unlike your former classmates who considered it "unnecessary bullshit."

Right now, you were in your Predatorial Class, which you learn all about Predators and the different species they come in, and multiple Borrower tactics on how you could escape them. Why your classmates could care less about their education, especially in Predatorial Class, you couldn't understand.

You didn't get to enter Predatorial Class until you had reached mature age, which for Borrowers was at the age of 10. For beginners, you just learned about the different species of Predators: Nekos, Nagas, Ferals, excetera.

The second level was when you learned about their different body systems and characteristics. For example, you'd be taught to tell the difference between a Feral and a human, and how Ferals have storage and humans don't.

Then there's the third level. The level which you were in right now.

Here, you learned about encountering Predators, and how you'd escape them if you were caught. Specifically, how to escape them if you were being... well... eaten.

All Borrowers (if given at least a basic education) are taught the "Predator Gag Reflex" tactic. What is that you ask? Well let me tell you.

When taught the Predator Gag Reflex tactic, you are on the verge of being swallowed by a Predator. Just before you slip down, you have to either grab the tounge of the Predator with both hands, or if he or she has tonsils, grab both of them at the same time. This is supposed to trigger the Predator's gag reflex (hence the name), shooting you out of the mouth of the Predator.

After you've escaped, depending on your location, you will have to follow another drill taught to you. There's many different drills you are required to learn, which is why the Predatorial Class is one of the most important Borrower classes you are taught when getting an education.

It's almost impossible to remember every single drill you learn in the class. You end up remembering a good few once you leave off to be a Borrower for the first time, but soon enough many Borrowers end up just forgetting everything they learned and go by their gut instead. Which, as the many stories you've likely heard of previous Borrowers before, doesn't usually end on a peaceful note when the Predator doesn't have that faint of a heart.

You continued copying notes which your teacher had written on his board, when your writing utensils suddenly rolled off of your desk all at once. You quickly picked them back up as to not disturb the class (even though they weren't paying attention anyways) and kept quiet. They rolled off again, this time a thud shaking the whole floor.

Everyone went silent, including the teacher.

He slowly paced towards the window, hushing the students. He squinted his eyes, scanning the outside. Then, you noticed he'd gone still. And he kept that way for a long minute until someone spoke up.

"What is it...?"

He took a deep, anxious breath, walking backwards from the window. He turned towards us with a fearful expression.

"GET DOWN." He mouthed towards us.

"NOW."
