Jack was hungry, and needed food badly. Like, REALLY badly. He'd gone skinny, and food sources had fallen very low for him. His fridge was a wasteland, and was better off being in the garbage outside, but he didn't have the strength to take it out.
It had begun when his girlfriend, Signe, had left to visit her family. Jack promised to take care of the house while she was away. But here's the thing- Jack relied on Signe for food since she'd be the main cook of the house.
Jack didn't go hungry straight away though; he had some contained food in the fridge to fend off of for the time being. As he began to run out, Jack ate in smaller portions every day until he was now just nibbling at crumbs.
Signe would be gone for two whole weeks, but Jack had drained the fridge by the seventh day. He still had an entire week more to go. There was no way he could go without food for that long, and under no circumstance was he going to try and rob a store.
The only thing that was making Jack happy was his Community. He couldn't bear to tell them his current condition, nor see it. As a cover up, he made the excuse that he was very ill, and the Community bought in the lie. He made sure to post the message on every social media he had: Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, all of them except Instagram... of course.
He laid on his bed matress restlessly. He listened to the rolling traffic from the outside with a sigh. He checked his phone for social media updates, and there was nothing much different. He liked a few fanart photos, and replied to a few of his friends' tweets. Everyone was oblivious to his true condition at the time- or so he thought he did.
There was still you; the Borrower of the apartment. You were planning on moving soon since food portions were becoming so small even for you. You were hesitant though, because you were starting to feel bad for Jack. He was dangerous to you, yes, but after watching him for awhile, you'd come to the conclusion that Jack was a very generous man.
As Jack scrolled through social media, he suddenly caught an old, familiar scent. He couldn't put a finger on what it was though. Jack got out of his slouched position and looked around the room. He didn't even know what he was looking for, but he knew it was good.
He growled, and his head instantly turned towards the wall to the noise of a small thud. Was it really what he thought it was?
Jack slowly inched his way towards the wall, and the scent got stronger. He placed his sharp ear against the wall, and listened intently.
Tiny scraping and thumping could be heard through the inside of the wall, making Jack smile. He knew what it was now, and it made his mouth water.
"A Borrower..." Jack mumbled, his eyes lighting up.
. . .
Jack set out trap after trap, trying everything he could to catch you. But, unfortunately for him, you were too smart, and easily avoided each and every trap he set out. He'd had enough of this. It was like a person waving a treat around a dog and never actually giving it to them, teasing the dog.
Now the impatient dog was going to just snatch the treat, just like Jack was going to snatch you by himself.
He waited late at night for you to come out of the walls. You always exited out of the walls straight into the kitchen, which Jack had already assumed it was where you come out since that's where majority of the food was stored (even though there was basically nothing left).
You snuck out of your hole silently, unaware of the giant Predator that was slowly stalking you in the near distance. You were already expecting for the worst; the unusual atmosphere was nagging you, and you had a funny feeling stapled into your gut that wouldn't go away.
